Body & Paint Technician (Technical Level 2) – Reports to Workshop Supervisor/Bodyshop Manager
Overall Job:
Undertakes the painting of vehicles, will need to demonstrate advanced refinishing skills, problem-solving capability and the ability to work on their own initiative. The paint technician must have a fundamental understanding of colour theory and refinishing defects. Detecting additional faults and ensures all work is completed safely and to the highest standards and to customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Supports day to day body shop operations.
• Completes work orders including details of repairs completed, paints & parts required and labour to be charged etc.
• Interprets and uses technical data and instruction provided by the manufacturer (e.g., using the ‘repair’ systems)
• Use different methods to obtain colour harmony when refinishing solid and effect colours. For example, by manually adjusting a colour formulation using mixing tinters, manipulating application technique or using data from a spectrophotometer.
• Make sure any colour adjustments are completed as economically as possible and to not exhibit metamerism (colour change when viewed under different illuminations)
• Demonstrate knowledge to Identify and state the cause of the most common refinishing and environmental defects, to include recoverable and non-recoverable defects.
• Identify preventative measures to minimise the risk of refinishing and environmental defects during the repair operations and normal use of the customer's vehicle.
• Select and use the most appropriate and cost-effective method to rectify refinishing and environmental recoverable/non-recoverable defects. To include abrasive and polishing operations.
• Mix, match and apply topcoat colours specified by manufacturers, be it Premium Metallic and Ultra Metallic colour palette, to include single hue shift effect pigments.
• Prepare substrates for blending and fade-out repairs, including abrasive and masking operations.
• Use technical data to complete blends to single panels with solid/effect pigments and make sure stand-up/halos are not exhibited in the blend transition area.
• Use to technical data to complete a fade-out to clearcoat material on part-panel repairs, where the complete panel coverage is not an option.
• Assess and identify an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) clearcoat texture (peel) and replicate the finish with a refinish clearcoat material. Including application and polishing methods.
• Use technical data to identify colours that are considered as tri-coat finishes, to include the use of spectrophotometers/smart mixing schemes and colour index/libraries.
• Use a logical and repeatable process to identify the film thickness or number of coats required when assessing a tri-coat colour for refinishing.
• Mix and apply a tri-coat colour ground to a blend panel to achieve a finish with minimal overspray at the blend transition area.
Works as a full member of the Workshop Team
• Supports Workshop Controller and team to meet objectives.
• Works with colleagues from the Service department on work orders and to identify opportunities to upsell additional products and services in relation to denting & painting, parts, and other services offered by the service centre.
• Supplies accurate information to the Parts department for the ordering of parts.
• Uses feedback to improve own skills and performance.
• Suggests and implements changes to improve processes and customer service.
• Maintains a professional manner and high standards of personal presentation at all times, ensuring that work area and protective clothing is kept clean, tidy and in a safe condition in order to uphold the workshop standards.
• Adheres to legal, environmental and health and safety requirements whilst ensuring the safety and security of people, vehicles, and property at all times, reporting any known faults or hazards.

Experience:1-3 years in body shop, denting and painting experience.
Working Hours:07:30AM to 05:00PM
Location: Verna, Goa (may include travel to all Goa) Must be prepared to sometimes travel out of Goa)
