Job Description

Full job description
Help launch a bold new chapter in community food access! The Calgary Food Bank is opening a new branch in Calgary that brings food support to our downtown community. We’re looking for a dynamic Branch Coordinator at our Neoma location to be a key force behind its success, coordinating both client service and operational excellence. This is your chance to shape something meaningful from the ground up—where every shift, every decision, and every connection helps build a stronger, more food-secure community.

About Us

At the Calgary Food Bank our mission is “to make food accessible to everyone in our city”. Our core belief that no one in our community should go without food continues to serve as our guiding principle for our future. We are the first line of emergency food support for people facing crisis serving over 100,000 individuals per year and growing. Always client centered and community focused, the Calgary Food Bank is committed to excellence in both our operations and culture.

The Opportunity

In this role, you'll help shape branch-level programming with a strong client-first mindset—adapting and launching activities that meet evolving community needs. Reporting to the Branch Supervisor, you’ll empower volunteers during food hamper distribution and facilitate warehouse activities such as inventory control, receiving, and restocking, ensuring smooth, efficient operations that keep our services running reliably and responsively.

What You’ll Do:

Coordinate daily food deliveries and pickups; maintain accurate inventory records, including donations and product movement.
Maintain timely and accurate data on key performance metrics.
Collect and organize program data and complete reporting requirements on schedule.
Collaborate with staff and volunteers to deliver a high-quality client experience.
Conduct gap assessments of the branch program to identify areas for improvement and develop alternate program opportunities to meet community needs.
Ensure proper daily closure of the building, including securing entrances, shutting down equipment, and completing end-of-day safety checks.
Facilitate client intake procedures, including ID verification and registration protocols.
Support clients by answering questions, providing resource referrals, and resolving conflicts or crises when needed.
Ensure all client-facing services meet health, safety, and food handling standards.
Uphold client confidentiality and always ensure respectful interactions.
Assist and support volunteers with operational tasks and training.
Conduct task-specific health and safety orientations for volunteers.
Stock perishable and non-perishable items in the shopping area.
Assist with food hamper preparation and product rotation according to established guidelines.
Maintain cleanliness and organization in the shopping area.
Operate equipment (e.g., pallet jacks) safely and in compliance with health and safety procedures.
Report any safety concerns, inventory discrepancies, or operational hazards promptly.
Collaborate with the Branch Supervisor to optimize inventory levels, reduce waste, and avoid shortages.
Support initiatives to expand food accessibility through the Neoma branch location.
Assist the Program Supervisor with budget management, including resolving discrepancies.
Make real-time operational decisions to address client or warehouse issues.
Prioritize tasks and assign volunteer support based on shift needs.
Ensure compliance with Calgary Food Bank policies and promote a culture of safety and teamwork.
Implement client and volunteer feedback to improve the Neoma branch services.
Actively promote health and safety in the workplace.
What You Bring:

Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (Community Development, Social Work, Nutrition and Food Science, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or related disciplines)
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Coordinator or similar role (a combination of education and equivalent experience will be considered).
Experience in a Team Lead or Trainer role is an asset.
Experience working in customer service or with vulnerable populations is an asset.
Skills & Capabilities:

Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to engage with diverse audiences.
Having initiative, with the ability to work under little or no supervision and to be able to work under pressure
Exceptional attention to detail and documentation.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Strong customer service orientation and client engagement skills.
Working Schedule and Conditions:

Full-time hours: 37.5 hours per week
Evening and weekend shifts are required to meet operation needs.
Work is conducted in a mixed warehouse and retail-like environment.
Comfortable in fast-paced, client-facing environments.
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.

What Makes This Role Exciting:

As a cornerstone of our new branch location, the Branch Coordinator role offers the rare chance to shape how food access is delivered—right from day one. You'll collaborate closely with branch leadership to fine-tune operations and ensure shelves are always stocked for those who need it most. Whether you're guiding volunteers through a busy shift, or using feedback to improve client experiences, every day brings a new opportunity to act with purpose.

Perks & Benefits:

A competitive compensation and benefit package and Health and Personal Spending Accounts
8% RRSP matching program
Board approved performance bonuses
Flexible work hours including hybrid options
Staff Development Days throughout the year
Your Impact Starts Here

This is more than a job—it’s your chance to help launch something new and lasting. As a member of our first-ever branch team, you’ll shape how we serve the community today and help pave the way for tomorrow’s expansion.
