About the team:

Located in the Planning and Regulation Department, the City Inspectorate Branch is responsible for enforcement of the City’s standards and local laws, across building community, public safety and environmental health compliance to protect the safety and amenity for the City’s residents and visitors. You will be working within a supportive and driven team whilst having the support of great line leaders.

About your new role:

We are seeking to appoint a positive and energetic individual to join the Development Compliance team who are passionate about ensuring the City of Gold Coast remains a safe and liveable City. This is a full-time fixed term role until 30 June 2025.

You will provide high level technical and administrative support by assisting in monitoring Development Compliance Building unit workflows and investigate allegations, disputes and customer requests in relation to compliance with the legislative requirements and regulations. You will carry out a variety of building compliance tasks, including but not limited to:

Carry out compliance inspections to identify safety issues, and issue statutory notices in accordance with Development Compliance policy and procedures.
Manage customer requests received internally or externally in relation to building works.
Investigate requests by reviewing the applicable legislation, development approvals and plans as required.
Prepare file notes/ inspection reports, correspondence, notices and letters, in accordance with Development Compliance processes.
Investigate non-compliance with the Building Act 1975, Planning Act 2016, City Plan and associated legislation.
Comprehensively research records, interpret policy and legislation as required.
Assess and determine compliance with the requirements of the Building Code of Australia related to fire safety for class 1 and 10 buildings.
Make recommendations based on statutory obligations and evidence to determine appropriate action to achieve compliance.
Initiate enforcement action in accordance with legislative requirements when deemed appropriate while maintaining a high level of customer service.
Manage timeframes of enforcement action.
Other duties that may be directed by the supervisor or management.
We're looking for people who have:

Bachelor’s degree in building surveying, equivalent knowledge and or experience highly desirable.
Knowledge of the Planning Act, Building Act, and Building Code of Australia is highly desirable.
Hold a Drivers Licence Class C Unrestricted
Hold WHS Licence General Construction (White Card) or is willing to obtain one.
Experience in building compliance, or other relevant fields with additional experience in Regulatory Enforcement highly regarded.
A positive and energetic outlook and enjoy working within a team.
Demonstrated skills in consultation, negotiation, and mediation.
Excellent level of documentation and written communication skills
The ability to prioritise and manage numerous investigations.

A strong understanding of technology and using it effectively to do the job and solve problems within complex computer systems.
