We're looking for a Building Control Officer Customer Advisor to join us on our journey in a fixed-term capacity.

This is a fixed-term role for approximately 12-months.

Join Western Bay of Plenty District Council and play a key role in supporting our growing community. This varied role combines Building Control, PIM, and Vetting Officer responsibilities , offering the chance to make a real difference while building your career.

About the role:
You’ll be the first point of contact for customers, providing technical advice and managing applications from pre-lodgement through vetting and allocation.

Your work will include:

Pre-lodgement meetings and applicant liaison

Vetting Building Consents, Amendments, PIMs, Exemptions, COAs, CCCs, CPUs, LBPs

Managing VRFIs and lodgement fees

Allocating consents and carrying out PIM/PIC checks, referrals, and Heritage NZ notifications

Coordinating Sections 72–77 (Natural Hazards/title notifications)

Managing Building Counter Enquiries (emails, calls, service requests)

Ensuring data integrity, resolving system issues, and staying up to date with legislation

Liaising with compliance, legal advisors, BCOs, and referral teams

To set you up for success, you’ll have:

Building-related qualification and knowledge of construction, NZ Building Code & Building Act 2004

Adaptability to a constantly changing work environment

A great work and customer service ethic, adaptability, and attention to detail

Sound computer skills in the use of MS Office and databases

Current NZ driver’s licence
