Job Title: Data Governance Consultant

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Consultant with deep expertise in Australian financial services regulation to support enterprise-wide data governance uplift initiatives. This role will play a critical part in aligning data practices with regulatory obligations, strengthening data ownership frameworks, and embedding governance across business divisions.
You will operate at a senior level, engaging with executives, risk committees, and regulatory stakeholders, while driving data strategy and governance maturity across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and implementation of data governance frameworks aligned to APRA and privacy regulations
Provide subject matter expertise on CPG 235, CPS 230, CPS 234, and the Privacy Act within banking environments
Guide and influence divisional data strategies, ensuring alignment with enterprise data objectives
Establish and lead a Data Owner Community of Practice, uplifting accountability and capability across business units
Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders on data risk, controls, and compliance obligations
Represent the organisation at risk committees, governance forums, and senior leadership discussions
Drive improvements in data quality, data lineage, metadata management, and control frameworks
Support regulatory engagements, audits, and remediation activities related to data governance
Collaborate with risk, technology, and business teams to embed data governance into operational processes
Key Requirements
Proven experience as a Data Governance Consultant / Lead within banking or financial services
Deep working knowledge of:
APRA CPG 235 (Managing Data Risk)
CPS 230 (Operational Risk Management)
CPS 234 (Information Security)
Australian Privacy Act and data protection requirements
Strong experience influencing and engaging at senior executive and board-level forums
Demonstrated ability to lead enterprise-wide data initiatives and governance transformations
Experience establishing or managing data ownership models and governance communities
Strong understanding of data risk, controls, and regulatory compliance frameworks
Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and facilitation skills
Desirable Skills
Experience working with APRA-regulated institutions
Familiarity with data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation)
Background in risk management, audit, or regulatory compliance
Experience supporting regulatory reviews or remediation programs
