About the role
The Bushland Maintenance Officer sits within Council’s Conservation team and is responsible for delivering on-ground bushland maintenance and revegetation works across Council’s natural reserves and open space areas.
Working under the direction of the Crew Leader, this role focuses on practical field-based delivery of works programs, including weed control, revegetation, habitat management, seed collection and general bushland maintenance.
You will operate plant and equipment, undertake manual tasks, and contribute to the delivery of programmed works across a range of sites. The role requires working outdoors in varying conditions and adapting to changing priorities, site conditions and seasonal demands.
You will also interact with members of the public, community groups and volunteers when working in open spaces, providing basic information and representing Council in a professional manner.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, passionate about natural areas, can follow direction, and takes pride in delivering consistent, high-quality work as part of a team.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the following:
You are a reliable and capable operator with experience in bushland or natural area maintenance, and the ability to carry out physical, outdoor work safely and efficiently.
You have practical skills in weed control, revegetation and the use of plant and equipment, and are comfortable working as part of a small team to deliver programmed works. Able to follow direction, work with minimal supervision and meet expected timeframes and standards.
You are dependable, punctual and take responsibility for your work. Understand the importance of safety, can follow procedures and are willing to learn and develop your skills.
You communicate clearly and respectfully with colleagues and the public and are able to represent Council appropriately when working in community settings.
Key Selection Criteria
Certificate III or IV in Conservation Land Management or related field or equivalent experience, preferably including delivering environmental education programs.
Demonstrated ability to operate a variety of related more plant and equipment in a safe and efficient manner including undertaking routine daily maintenance of minor plant and equipment.
Demonstrated ability to work diligently and enthusiastically with minimal supervision to meet desired service outcomes within nominated schedules.
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team environment including high levels of reliability and punctuality.
Demonstrated ability to interact with the public in a clear and courteous manner, to present a positive image for Council, with a strong focus on customer service excellence.
Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills.
Good computer skills
A current First Aid Certificate.
