Act as a conduit between our nationally critical operations and ICT
Work with senior leaders to take advantage of business opportunities
Meaningful work, essential to running New Zealand electricity system!
Leadership role in helping Operations identify opportunities and plan strategies to harness them.

Transpower's purpose is to empower the energy future for New Zealand - a future that delivers a net-zero carbon economy and a reliable and secure electricity system.

About the team

Our Operations Process and Technology Improvement (OPTI) group supports the Operations division to deliver solutions required to manage the real time power system and prepare for an increasingly electrified future https://www.transpower.co.nz/system-operator/our-system-operator-role

The group plays an essential role in proactively identifying the critical capabilities, skills, resources, and support needed to meet current and future operational needs. The group is working to optimise planning and investment decisions across key tools and processes (including SCADA applications, market systems, real time systems, and real time asset management technologies) utilised by our control rooms and other areas of Transpower.

A new opportunity

Working closely with the Head of OPTI, you'll play a key role in bridging the gap between Operations business and Transpower's Information and Communications Technology capability by engaging with senior business stakeholders to clarify business drivers and objectives. You will understand the challenges Operations is facing, the opportunities ahead of us, and work closely with the OPTI leaders to turn these into work programmes so Operations can achieve its strategic outcomes. You'll be a core member of the OPTI management team, focused on ensuring the work delivered is meaningful, provides Operations the best value from our investments, and maintains a clear link to strategic outcomes.

Collaborating with the broader Operations Senior Leadership Team and a range of internal and external stakeholders, you'll support delivery of projects and contribute to a wide variety of interesting activities that enhance the efficiency of the OPTI Team.

You'll also work closely with other Architect roles in our Information Services and Technology division (IST), providing expert business architecture advice and support that is aligned with the System Operator/IST Operating plan.

Based in our Wellington or Hamilton offices, this is critical and meaningful work - essential to operating Aotearoa New Zealand's Electricity and Market Systems.

What will you bring?

You'll have significant experience in a business architecture role, along with string interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication to support the definition and documentation of business capabilities and processes.

With the ability to position yourself as a trusted advisor between the business and ICT, you'll be comfortable translating complex technical knowledge from subject matter experts into actionable, outcome-focused strategies and plans.

To be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:

10+ years' professional experience in business architecture, enterprise business analysis, project management, or a similar role.
Commercial acuity and understanding of road maps, funding mechanisms, and financial management.
Experience communicating complex business concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, and using visualisation and modelling to support future state analysis and road mapping.
Outstanding relationship management, including astute ability to provide insightful, persuasive, and trusted advice to a diverse range of audiences including senior leaders.
Experience with business architecture tools and frameworks, such as TOGAF, Zachman, or similar.
A tertiary degree in business, information systems or a related field and/or equivalent experience.
