Coordinate and implement programs to promote retention.
Make academic and resources allocation decisions or recommendations impacting the center in keeping with rules and regulations of school/college/division.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assesses student interest, aptitudes, and abilities in order to assist in academic and career planning.
Counseling students in developing a specific academic program including choice of major and course selections.
Acts as a liaison of the Advisory Center with faculty, other schools and colleges, other University offices, and regional campuses.
Provides outreach to enhance student development, improve the quality of the learning environment, and counsel students to meet academic and career goals.
Coordinates programs for students with unique goals and needs.
Plans and provides outreach programs for high-risk students to promote retention.
Serves as a resource to other academic advisors/counselors concerning students with difficulties.
Plans and implements programs to help students with academic and career decisions.
Some examples are student workshops, departmental information sessions, or major fairs.
Refers students for various evaluative tests, evaluates results of placement tests, recommends an appropriate program based on test results.
Provides personal, vocational, and other non-academic counseling as appropriate.
Make referrals to appropriate University/ College/ School offices for specialized attention when indicated.
Provides outreach to prospective undergraduate students and their parents during orientation, regional campus visits, and on an individual basis.
Implements and enforces University and College rules and regulations and makes decisions regarding these regulations as delegated.
Serves as a resource to faculty and professional staff, including at regional campuses, to help interpret academic rules and regulations.
Develops and implements in-service training workshops, videos, and other means to improve academic advising.
Works closely with other schools and University offices to promote consistency and uniformity of judgments regarding such matters as enforcement of academic requirements, academic probation and dismissal, transfer in or out of programs, and other similar issues.
Creates computer programs to audit student records and determine progress toward meeting University, school and college academic requirements and to assess eligibility for graduation.
Compiles computer generated databases and statistical program evaluations.
Maintains appropriate files and records.
May supervise support staff or graduate students in their work with the Advisory Center.
Performs related duties as required.
