As a Payroll Analyst, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for all CPS employees, including those employees receiving payments from third party providers. You will communicate with all levels of Calgary Police Service (CPS) members, managers, and union representatives to provide information and advice on payroll policies and practices. Primary duties include:
Process payroll on a biweekly basis and ensure collective agreements, policies, and relevant legislation are applied correctly.
Monitor payroll using time and labour tools, reports, and queries and make any necessary payroll adjustments.
Communicate payroll changes to employees and interested parties.
Ensure scheduling and employee position changes are accurately reflected in payroll and scheduling systems.
Confirm employees are compensated correctly with proper authorization.
Review all health-related absences and ensure InTime and PeopleSoft Human Capital Management (HCM) accurately reflect dates, hours, and work restrictions.
Correct shortfalls and discrepancies and pay the affected employees correctly and on time via Pay Adjustment; administer general deductions including union dues.
Verify that all adjustments are coded correctly to differentiate between pensionable and non-pensionable amounts.
Calculate and process final pay for terminations, retirements, and resignations.
Comply with the provisions of the salary continuance plans such as Sickness and Accident, Homewood Health, Workers Compensation, and paid leaves including health-related portion of maternity leaves.
Coordinate training for Calgary Police Service (CPS) employees and supervisors on the Intime scheduling system.
Troubleshoot any scheduling and payroll-related questions.
Processes any mandatory compensations and contractual bank reductions or increases.
Act as the first point of contact in troubleshooting any payroll related matters.
Provide coverage for planned or unplanned absences.
Qualifications
A High School diploma or equivalency (e.g. GED), combined with a Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation through National Payroll Institute (formerly known as Canadian Payroll Association).
A minimum of 5 years directly related payroll experience or a related field such as payroll accounting, benefits administration, or pensions administration.
Knowledge of payroll processes and procedures, pensions, benefits, employment standards, taxation regulations and computer systems including online time entry systems is required.
Previous experience with PeopleSoft HCM is considered an asset.
