About the Job:
Campus Director at UAi oversees campus safety, physical security, emergency preparedness, and external coordination with law‑enforcement, regulatory bodies, & local authorities. The role is accountable for creating a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors while ensuring compliance with Indian laws and UAi policies (Code of Conduct).
Key Responsibilities:
Overall leadership of campus safety, security, surveillance & emergency management for the UAi campus in Karjat. Lead 24x7 security operations including access control, gate management, patrolling, incident response, traffic and parking, & crowd management during events.
Ensuring safety of students, faculty, staff, contractors, and visitors and protection of university assets and infrastructure.
Acting as primary liaison with police, fire services, disaster management authorities, local administration, and security vendors.
Oversee electronic surveillance (CCTV, access control, alarms), control room operations, and incident logging and reporting.
Coordinate campus‑wide emergency preparedness: drills, evacuation plans, fire safety compliance, first‑aid & crisis‑management exercises.
Serve as the UAi’s nodal officer for security‑related liaison with law‑enforcement agencies, district administration, disaster management authorities, & neighbouring communities.
Manage liaison with all local authorities including Village Gram Panchayat, Tehsildar, Town Planning Dept, Irrigation Department, Forest Department and Collector (Alibaug) for all projects (including construction). Keep a record of all correspondence with all local authorities.
Ensure the facilities and housekeeping are maintained as per world class standards through the facilities agencies.
Manage contracts and performance of outsourced security and facilities agencies and facility partners; ensure training, discipline and deployment meet agreed SLAs.
Ensure compliance with applicable safety, security and privacy laws (e.g., local police verification norms, labour laws for guards, fire and building codes) and with internal policies on student discipline and grievance redressal.
Prepare and disseminate timely safety advisories, emergency alerts & communication to students, parents and staff using approved channels.
Initiate Disciplinary action against offenders. Maintain security incident records, prepare periodic MIS & reports for UAi leadership and statutory bodies; recommend policy and infrastructure improvements.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with local police stations, fire services, nearby hospitals, municipal bodies and transport authorities to support rapid response and preventive coordination.
Represent UAi in safety & security reviews, joint inspections, & community meetings; handle visits & inspections by regulatory/accreditation agencies related to safety.
Coordinate with Deans, wardens, hostel supervisors, student affairs and facilities teams to address safety issues, student conduct, protests, and events peacefully and lawfully.
Qualifications & Experience
PG Degree preferred; ex‑defence / paramilitary / police officers or experienced security professionals are often prioritised for such roles. (Former Police officers are preferred candidates).
10–15+ years of progressively responsible experience in security, campus safety, facilities/estates, or corporate security, including experience managing large sites.
Strong knowledge of Indian safety & security regulations, emergency management, contract management of security vendors, and use of CCTV and access‑control systems.
Skills & Competencies
Proven leadership and people‑management skills to manage large 24x7 security teams and outsourced staff.
High level of integrity, discretion, conflict‑resolution and crisis‑management capability, including handling student unrest, staff unrest or sensitive incidents.
Excellent communication and liaison skills in English and local language for coordinating with authorities, internal stakeholders and the community.
