What You’ll Do

As a Carpenter at CIHA, you’ll perform skilled journeyman-level construction and remodeling work across a wide range of projects. Your daily work will support CIHA’s housing portfolio, maintain the quality of our properties, and improve homes for residents across Anchorage.

Perform interior and exterior remodeling with an emphasis on detailed finish carpentry.
Construct, install, or repair cabinets, doors, millwork, floors, and other wooden fixtures.
Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and building plans.
Generate material lists and assist with procurement planning.
Cut, shape, and assemble materials to precise measurements.
Follow safety rules and maintain clean, organized work environments.
Complete weatherization repairs, including insulation, ventilation, vapor barrier upgrades, window replacement, and sealants.
Perform ADA accessibility improvements (ramps, porches, compliant doors, handrails, grab bars, etc.).
Install soft ceramic tile, repair floors, and replace window glass.
Perform manual labor such as lifting, loading, staging, and transporting materials.
Maintain detailed records including timesheets, vendor logs, bids, and photo documentation.
Assist in organizing and planning construction projects.
Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Customer-Focused: You work well with residents, coworkers, and vendors, and bring a service-oriented approach to every job.
Adaptable: You’re comfortable entering attics and crawlspaces, working in confined spaces, and lifting up to 85 lbs.

The Basics

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent combination of experience and training.
Experience:

Four years of apprenticeship training (or equivalent work experience).
Three years of journeyman-level experience in construction work.
License:

Valid Alaska driver’s license required.
