Job Overview
Carpenter / Lighting Specialist will support our fabrication team with day-to-day carpentry responsibilities, while also stepping in to assist with lighting installations, electrical components, and technical builds as needed. This is a hybrid position intended for someone who is already skilled in carpentry and comfortable working with basic electrical systems and lighting hardware. You'll be part of a creative, fast-paced team where craftsmanship and problem-solving are valued every day.
Key Responsibilities:
Primary (Carpentry):
Fabricate structures using wood, MDF, plywood, laminates, and other materials per design specifications.
Operate power tools and hand tools safely and efficiently.
Interpret drawings, sketches, and instructions to build high-quality scenic and architectural elements.
Support shop production, project builds, and on-site installations.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Secondary (Lighting/Electrical):
Assist with the installation of lighting elements, LED systems, power routing, and basic wiring within builds.
Collaborate with designers and tech leads to integrate lighting hardware into scenic structures.
Troubleshoot basic electrical components or lighting issues on-site or during testing.
Help maintain inventory of lighting tools, cables, connectors, and fixtures.
Ensure compliance with electrical safety practices during installs and in the shop.
Team Collaboration:
Take direction from Foreman or Lead Carpenter to execute builds according to plan.
Work closely with fellow carpenters and department leads to meet deadlines and maintain quality.
Communicate clearly about progress, questions, or potential issues during projects.
Shop Maintenance & Safety:
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in both the shop and on-site.
Follow all company safety protocols and use proper PPE at all times.
Help with loading/unloading materials, organizing tools, and general shop upkeep.
Cross-Disciplinary Support:
Step in where needed to assist other teams or departments when asked by Foreman, Managers or Lead. This would be asked when necessary to ensure the job is completed on-time and/or to clients satisfaction.
Other duties may be assigned that include, but are not limited to: sanding, painting, moving props, loading trucks, etc.
Represent Tractor Vision’s quality standards and creative intent in every phase of the build
Installation & On-Site Work:
Participate in on-site installations, ensuring that all fabricated elements are installed properly and securely.
Collaborate with team members to adapt to site conditions and solve unforeseen challenges quickly and effectively.
Travel when necessary.
Support other teams as needed / as directed by Project Manager and Project Lead. Always keeping in mind the Make-It-Happen attitude.
Qualifications:
Familiarity with common lighting types (LED tape, practicals, DMX-controlled fixtures)
Ability to read shop drawings and basic wiring diagrams.
Flexibility to shift between carpentry and lighting support based on project needs.
Good communication skills and willingness to collaborate across departments.
Punctual, dependable, and focused on high-quality work.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with DMX, addressable LEDs, or basic control systems (not required but a plus).
Familiarity with cable management, soldering, or low-voltage systems.
OSHA 10/30 or other safety certifications.
