Job Summary:
As a carpenters helper/drywall installer, you’ll be working closely with a lead carpenter, supporting the developments in commercial, residential and other construction projects. The work will include: drywall installation and repairs, installing all types of floor coverings, ceilings, paneling, trim and framing. You must be able to use a wide variety of hand and power tools and maintain them in good, safe working order. Site safety is critical in this role as a mid senior level, leading by example and directing less experienced team members where needed.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide proper training on the safe use of hand tools and power equipment.
• Learn the ropes from foundation to framing, and everything in between.
• Assist other trades on-site as needed.
• Prepare surfaces for painting and finishing but ensure drywall has been sanded and primed.
• Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools.
• Painting may be required on site from time to time.
• Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems.
• Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, moulding and hardware.
• Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants and other establishments.
Requirements
• Minimum 0.5 years of experience as a Junior Carpenter, or 1 year of skilled labour in residential or non-residential construction.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy loads of up to 90lbs).
• Interest in working towards developing carpentry skills
• Strong customer service and front-facing skills.
• Basic knowledge in all aspects of Carpentry.
• A good gut for heights, managing a crew and working on busy, high pressure job sites.
• Aptitude in math.
Work Conditions
• 24/7 availability may be required, overtime will be paid accordingly.
• Travel to off-site locations may be required.
• Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
• Hazards associated with the trade.
• Work both indoors in confined spaces and outdoors.
• Clean, warm work clothes (jeans, long-sleeves, hoodies, etc.).
