Food preparation and cookingPreparing and cooking dishes according to the restaurant's menu and instructions. They ensure consistency in taste and quality across all dishes.
- Food hygiene and safetyMaintaining food hygiene and safety standards, including storing ingredients properly, cleaning the work area, and keeping equipment in good working order.
- Inventory managementMonitoring the list of ingredients and supplies in their section, and ordering the necessary items.
- Menu developmentContributing to the development of new dishes and refining existing recipes.
- Kitchen setup and cleanupSetting up the kitchen before the restaurant opens, and cleaning and sanitizing the area before the restaurant closes.
- TrainingSupervising and training any demi-chef de parties or commis working with them.
- Team leadershipLeading, supervising, and motivating the shift team to deliver a high standard of food preparation and service.
- Cost controlMonitoring portion and waste control to keep within budget.
- Resource managementHelping to implement a program to reduce the department's use of resources.
