The Public Safety and Emergency Services is responsible for all provincial correctional and remand centers, young offender programs and community corrections across the province.


Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director, you will be responsible for the overall management, administration, development, coordination and monitoring of services provided by the Calgary Young Offender Centre and Adult Female Annex. You will also be responsible for the allocation of human, financial, and material resources in a manner consistent with the efficient and orderly delivery of institutional services.


You will liaise and coordinator with other correctional service agencies and government ministries, youth justice programs, courts, private agencies, and police agencies to ensure the efficient delivery of adult and young person’s programs. You will utilize a trauma informed approach in all interactions and procedures with youth, adults, families, staff, the general public, and external stakeholders to promote positive outcomes for youth and adults and a culture of health and safety for all.


In addition to the above noted responsibilities, you will also be responsible for:

Making recommendations to the Executive Director regarding centre policies and procedures.
Have direct supervisory responsibility for the centre’s management team.
You will constitute the executive authority within the young offender centre and report directly on all matters to the Executive Director.
The care and custody of the young person population of the young offender centre while maintaining young person behaviour management through the review and authorization of behaviour intervention review decisions.
Liaise directly with adult centres in the management of the adult female annex.

To be successful in this role, you must possess strong leadership skills acquired through leading large, complex teams. You must be motivated to play an active role in shifting cultural paradigms within the Centre and utilizing change management techniques to support the evolution of the Centre. Effective networking skills are essential as this position is required to interact daily and maintain positive relationships with law enforcement agencies, other correctional and remand centres, the judiciary, lawyers, service providers and other ministry agents. You must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and must be able to adjust your communication to suit a variety of audiences. Interpersonal skills, decision making skills and problem-solving abilities are critical. The ability to promote staff engagement and lead staff effectively will ensure your success in this role.

Qualifications
Required:

University graduation in a related field (Criminology, Law Enforcement, Justice Studies etc.)
Seven years of progressively responsible experience (Deputy Director, Assistant Deputy Director, Director, Senior Manager.)

Equivalency:

Directly related experience or education will be considered on the basis of:

1 year of experience for 1 year of education; or
1 year of education for 1 year of experience

Assets:

Related experience within a law enforcement agency.
Continued education in leadership, management, human resources and/or change management.

Preferences will be given to those with management experience in the Correctional Services Division.

Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours per week.


Work location: Calgary Young Offender Centre, 12626 85 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta.


A valid Alberta Driver’s license is required for this position.
