You’ll partner closely with senior business leaders to embed strong risk behaviours, uplift self‑reliant risk management, and ensure compliance obligations are met while delivering better customer outcomes.


This is a newly created leadership role, offering the opportunity to shape structure, ways of working and risk outcomes across a core part of the Home Buying value chain.

This role sits within Line 1 Home Buying Risk and provides risk leadership across the Core Manufacturing, Apply with Ease and Manage and Own portfolios.


You’ll lead a team of * risk professionals and partner with General Managers and senior stakeholders across RBS. The role operates in a framework‑heavy, policy‑driven environment, requiring strong judgement, influence and leadership capability.


Your day could look like (but not limited to):

Leading Line 1 risk oversight across three Home Buying portfolios, ensuring alignment to risk appetite, policy and strategic objectives.

Coaching and partnering with senior stakeholders to build self‑reliant risk management and strong compliance behaviours.

Leading the execution of the Line 1 Risk strategy, including oversight of governance, implementation initiatives and continuous improvement.

Proactively identifying and responding to changes in the internal and external risk landscape impacting Home Buying.

Providing expert risk advice to senior leaders on obligations, vulnerabilities, emerging risks and resilience threats.

Delivering insightful risk reporting and business intelligence to accountable owners, forums and committees to drive transparency and action.

Consulting on process design, control effectiveness and investment prioritisation to mitigate risk and improve resilience.

Partnering with stakeholders to manage issues, near misses and emerging risks through timely, pragmatic responses.

Leading, coaching and developing a multi‑layered team, building capability and future leadership depth.


What successful candidates will look like

You’re a confident and resilient risk leader who can operate at pace in a complex, stakeholder‑heavy environment. You bring strong judgement, clear communication and the ability to influence senior leaders, while remaining pragmatic and commercially minded.


Experience required

Extensive experience across line 1 risk, compliance risk, issue and incident management, and third‑party/supplier risk

Strong subject‑matter expertise in Home Buying, or the ability to quickly build deep domain knowledge

Proven ability to apply enterprise risk and change frameworks to support effective governance and resilience

Demonstrated experience partnering with senior executives to enable risk‑informed decision making

Strong people leadership capability, with experience building, coaching and developing high‑performing teams

Strategic thinking, sound judgement and the confidence to challenge constructively
