Job description
The HomeAid Hawaii’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is a multi-faceted leader with expertise in financial management, operations, and human resources, a strong background in nonprofit management, and the ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on execution to support the organization’s rapid growth and impact.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

HomeAid Hawaii is a nonprofit developer focused exclusively on building housing solutions for people experiencing homelessness due to a diverse array of situations, including trauma, disasters, migration, economics, healthcare, and various causes unique to Hawaii.

Currently, we are the lead developer for the State of Hawaii’s Kauhale Initiative and Maui Wildfire Housing response. Our approach to development is rooted in balancing construction with community relations through outreach and community engagement.

Our approach to affordable housing for Hawaii’s most vulnerable includes:
• Obtaining Land Through Public and Private Sectors
• Developing Alternative Financing Strategies to Reduce Construction Costs
• Developing Regulatory Tools Supporting Smart
• Development Under Emergency Situations
• Development and Alternative Housing
• Land Asset & Property Management

Currently, through strategic partnerships with public and private sectors, our organization averages approximately 42% in savings to develop communities and villages across the State of Hawaii. This comes with an array of administrative support to ensure partners are supported with the finance and regulatory documents to support our mission.

The Board of Directors represent some of Hawaii’s most influential builders, and is currently being enhanced with additional talents to meet the needs of this growing nonprofit organization.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

HomeAid Hawaii has been known as a small nonprofit organization for the past 7 years (2015-2022). The organization is part of a national 35-year-old (2024) HomeAid organization – HomeAid America – with 1+ affiliates nationwide. HomeAid Hawaii was its 17th affiliate initiated by Hawaii’s building industry in 2015 when the State of Hawaii was faced with the highest homelessness rate per capita in the nation and largest homeless encampment in Kakaako and Kapalama. Since then, we have been the private sector and builder industry’s response to homelessness and have become a solution to a gap in housing advocacy that now includes builders and developers.

In 2023, HomeAid Hawaii welcomed its second Chief Executive Officer, Kimo K. Carvalho who has expanded the organization from an annual $500k nonprofit to becoming a multi-million-dollar organization managing $245M in assets and development. Under his leadership, the organization is staffed by 13 full-time employees and 26 contractors dedicated to its mission and operations.

The CAO will support the organization with visionary leadership and strategic direction to advance and sustain the organization’s growth. Key responsibilities will include financial management, resource and fund development, organizational management, human resources, strategic planning, and advocacy efforts.

The CAO will be instrumental in developing an updated strategic plan, driving initiatives that enhance the organization’s impact, and ensure sustainable growth and effectiveness in addressing housing solutions for Hawaii’s most vulnerable people.
