Principal Responsibilities: The Chief Risk Officer is responsible for leading the Risk function to identify, assess, monitor and make timely and measured judgments on all current and potential future risks faced, in order to protect the employees, assets and reputation of the Group and to grow shareholder value and profitability. The Chief Risk Officer is responsible for the following risk disciplines:
• Credit Risk & Market Risk
• FCC & RC Risk
• Risk Strategy (including Risk Appetite, Business Model Risk)
• Operational Risk & Internal Controls
• Reputation Risk (including Product Suitability)
• People Risk
• Risk Systems/Projects
• Security & fraud including Business Contingency Planning
Control
• Maintain HSBC internal control standards and address audit points and/or any issues raised by Regulators and Senior Management in a timely manner.
• Foster a compliance culture and implement Group Compliance Policy by managing compliance risk in liaison with the Local Compliance Officer, ensuring adequate compliance resources are in place and training is provided, and optimizing relations with regulators
• Adherence to processes and controls to identify and mitigate risks and ensures timely escalation of control issues and reputation risks.
Creating and sustaining awareness of operational risk and minimize the likelihood of it occurring including its identification, assessment, mitigation and control, loss identification and reporting in accordance with the Group Operations FIM Conduct Management of conduct is a critical component of all our business activities including, for example, the Group’s strategy and business models, our culture and behaviors, our interaction with customers, our financial markets operations, and our governance and oversight processes. Impact on the Business/Function
• Lead and direct the Risk Function, as a partner to the Business, supporting growth aspirations whilst retaining the appropriate risk management discipline to achieve strategic goals.
• Direct and/or functional oversight of the entity's Risk Management operations.
• Recommend/Approve significant credit and portfolio exposures ensuring that Risk/Reward is appropriate.
• Identify emerging risk issues and initiate mitigating strategies.
• Establish and maintain the in-site Risk Appetite framework, Stress Testing activities (regulatory and business as usual) and Economic Capital framework.
• Ensure that robust processes are in place to work with Finance on regulatory reporting returns and matters pertaining thereto.
• Maintain an effective operational risk framework in the Country, in line with Group Standards and local regulatory requirements
• Managing the credit quality of lending portfolios to ensure credit costs targets are not exceeded.
• Ensure risk management policies and procedures for products and other risk disciplines are market competitive and compliant with regulatory requirement and Group Standards.
Customers / Stakeholders
• Strengthen the Entity’s understanding of risk management, by incorporating risk considerations in all activities undertaken
• Manage key relationships with regulators, rating agencies, industry bodies and auditors.
• Working with ASP and Group Risk, oversight of the framework to standardize and integrate the various risk functions including the implementation of strategic projects and systems.
• Manage Compliance and AML Risk relationship with the regulator(s), as required.
• Proactively assist management in identifying and managing compliance risk fostering a compliance conscience and culture.
Leadership & Teamwork
• Lead the transition locally to join up the Global Risk Function so that it is considered to be “Best in Class”.
• Build a strong cross functional Team and a Network of skilled Risk Managers – in all Risk disciplines.
• Upgrade people capability and ensure team development
• Motivating direct reports to achieve personal and collective goals.
• Establish a strong governance model.
Operational Effectiveness & Control:
• Communicate risk strategy and policies throughout the Entity
• Monitor effectiveness of implementation of risk strategy and policies
• To implement the Group compliance policy locally in liaison with the Country/WPB Compliance Officer fostering a compliance culture and optimizing relations with regulators.
• Maintain cost discipline, rationalize and consolidate Risk expense.
• To review and process dispensation requests raised by businesses that pertain to the management of risk.
• Maintain a robust and efficient control environment across specialist area to ensure good operational, financial and compliance with HSBC policy and procedures, together with early identification and effective resolution or escalation of issues that arise.

Job Context
• The jobholder is required to work closely with business senior executives and provide judgement and clear direction on all associated risk matters. Where items of major impact are involved, reference to the Regional WPB CRO will be made in addition to Country WPB Head / CRO.
• Transactional approval authority as per product papers / RRP
• Impairment authority Classification, provision and write-off authority –as preapproval matrix
• The jobholder is required to contribute to maintaining an excellent relationship with the Regulators and industry bodies. This involves dealing with a multitude of regulatory
• The jobholder has to possess good knowledge on securities regulations, NBFC regulations, Operations, Audit and control concepts in order to develop a set of effective standard guidelines that can be implemented. In addition, the jobholder is expected to be highly organized and to act independently and exercise broad discretion with minimal guidance and supervision.
• The jobholder is HSBC InvestDirect’s senior point of contact with local/Country Government Security and Law Enforcement agencies.
• The importance of operational risk & control and security risk has increased over recent years and has the potential to be one of the most influential value added services available to senior management and the board. Jobholder’s ability in identifying major risk areas and key control weaknesses poses significant impact on businesses

Requirements
Typical qualifications would include a Chartered Accountant, MBA Finance, post-graduate degree in Business Administration, Finance / Accounts or a related field. Experience
• Min 10–12 years of experience in the field of Risk management leading a Product or functional area
• Exposure to demanding operational environments to gain insight into the most effective risk management applications.
• Working across all levels of the organization to understand cross-functional linkages and interdependencies, as well as the implications of risk at both a strategic level and at the business unit level.
• 4-5 years’ exposure to developing and managing a team
• Exposure to or experience in a NBFC preferred.
• Transaction Approval Authority
Skills
• Credit underwriting, financial analysis and understanding of capital markets.
• Demonstrated business knowledge, such as experience leading a P&L unit.
• Strong Communication and interpersonal skills, including the capacity to articulate the case for risk management.
• Ability to make robust/tough decisions which may be contrary to the business wishes.
• Understand and interpret complex business requirements.
• Proven ability to prioritize competing demands.
• Demonstrated ability to assess Risk trends, both internally and externally.
• Strong leadership and management ability, developing and motivating Risk employees.
• Ability to drive change.
• Developing and retaining critical talent and building an effective leadership team
