Full job description
The Children’s Ministry Assistant supports the planning, coordination, and execution of programs for children from birth through elementary age. This role works closely with the Children’s Ministry Director to create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where kids can learn about Jesus and grow in their faith. Responsibilities include assisting with weekly services, special events, volunteer coordination, and communication with families. This role requires a hands-on presence on Sundays and administrative support during the week.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Coordinate and schedule Impact Team volunteers.
Manage paid childcare opportunities.
Prepare and organize Sunday morning class materials and resources.
Handle administrative tasks including copies, filing, and account reconciliation
Submit weekly check requests for paid childcare workers.
Maintain up-to-date volunteer files (applications, references, request background checks).
Keep records current in the Shelby database.
Send monthly birthday cards to volunteers.
Support positive relationships with other church ministries and departments.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and efficiency of the children’s ministry.
Manage the children’s ministry social media presence.
Collaborate with the Communications Department to create flyers, emails, ads, and other materials for staff, volunteers, and parents.
Assist in planning and executing children’s ministry events (e.g. First Wednesdays, Campfire, Summer & Christmas Programs).
Download and distribute weekly curriculum.
Ensure Impact Team members have access to lesson content (e.g., print materials, Planning Center uploads, video access in classrooms)
Sunday Responsibilities
Oversee infants–kindergarten age groups by providing leadership and support to Impact Team members
Lead and develop the West Campus children’s ministry team, including coordinators
Represent the ministry in interactions with parents and children—offering guidance, discipline, and communication, while referring complex issues to the Director
Be available to fill in for classrooms, coordinators, or events as needed
Maintain high standards of safety, cleanliness, engagement, education, and consistency across all areas
Set up check-in stations for Elementary and Preschool areas
Deliver and set up curriculum in Preschool classrooms
Other duties as assigned

Must be able to stand for long periods of time and be able to lift 40 pounds.
