The Role
As a Chiller Technician, you’ll be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of air conditioning and chillers, working with well-known OEMs such as York, Daikin, Trane, Carrier, Smardt, Blue Box, JCI and Geoclima. This role involves managing your own projects, collaborating with field staff, and building strong client relationships while ensuring compliance and upholding Air Exchange’s high standards of quality and service.
You will also benefit from internal and external technical training, allowing you to continuously diversify your skill set while working alongside a multi-talented team. With the opportunity to work on major chiller system overhauls and component upgrades, you’ll be involved in technically challenging projects and gain valuable hands-on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform maintenance, fault finding, installation and repair works across a range of applied cooling chiller systems, with a strong focus on centrifugal, screw and scroll compressor plant.
Interpret drawings, specifications and site conditions to plan works, establish requirements and set out accurate reference points for mechanical services.
Carry out mechanical installation activities including mounting equipment, pipework fabrication and connection, ensuring correct alignment, fit and system integrity.
Install, overhaul and repair major system components such as compressors, motors, controls, valves and associated mechanical services.
Pressure test, evacuate and charge refrigeration systems, identifying leaks, commissioning systems and making performance adjustments as required.
Diagnose system faults through testing and operational checks, completing repairs and component replacements to restore reliable operation.
Adjust system controls and mechanisms, recommission equipment and verify correct operation following works.
Project manage your own works while supporting field staff as required to meet quality, safety and time expectations.
Oversee and mentor apprentices in a safe and professional manner, supporting their technical development and on-site performance.
Identify opportunities for improvement, proactively addressing potential failures to enhance system reliability and client outcomes.
Maintain a strong WHS focus by continually assessing risks and working safely at all times.
Complete accurate service reporting, including documentation of faults identified and corrective actions taken, and ensure all compliance paperwork is submitted correctly.
Build and maintain strong client relationships through professional communication, workmanship and service delivery.
Stay informed of HVAC industry developments and apply updated practices and knowledge in day-to-day work.
About You:
We are looking for a candidate who is driven, reliable, and proactive—someone who values independence and takes pride in delivering high-quality outcomes with minimal supervision. Key qualities and qualifications include:
2+ years of experience in chiller systems maintenance and fault diagnosis, with knowledge of OEM equipment.
A current ARC Licence and White Card (construction induction card).
A valid driver’s license for travel to multiple job sites.
Strong time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines without constant oversight.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on delivering superior service documentation and building client trust.
Ability to work autonomously and collaborate effectively within a team.
