Scope

The Traffic and Road Safety Section in the Transportation Division provides for the safe and efficient movement of people and goods on Surrey’s road network in order to contribute to a sustainable and livable community. This position is within the Traffic Engineering team in the Section.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain immensely valuable experience with a very innovative team of passionate and dedicated transportation professionals. As a junior technical staff member, you would provide support and assistance to senior engineering staff in administrative responsibilities, and performing moderate technical work related to the completion of a variety of transportation engineering activities and projects.

Responsibilities

Perform a variety of tasks related to traffic engineering analysis for all modes of transportation, including problem identification, option evaluation, report preparation, and responding to public inquiries.

Perform field inspections, undertake technical assessments, and make recommendations related to signage and pavement marking installation, sightlines, road safety, traffic control, traffic calming, and traffic operation, in partnership with other City staff.

Correspond and interact directly with residents regarding traffic related inquiries or concerns.

Support senior staff as needed with technical or administrative duties.

The level of responsibility will depend upon the candidate’s aptitude and initiative.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will have:

Applicants must have completed their first year of a degree program in a related engineering discipline and a valid BC driver's license.

The successful candidate must be a team player who can establish and maintain effective working relationships.

The successful candidate must possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with engineering professionals and the public.

Experience working in a customer service role is considered an asset.

Pay Grade: 21 (Salary adjusted in conjunction of the Letter of Understanding #34 in the CUPE 402 Collective Agreement)

Hourly Rate: $37.+1 Year of Completion Rate of Pay 1st Year (80%) $30.35 2nd Year (85%) $32.22 3rd Year (+0%) $34.11

This position is an 8 month term and is expected to start September 2025
