Why work with us?

At Council, we’re proud of our region. We collaborate with community to achieve truly sustainable outcomes, enhance our enviable lifestyle, and create award-winning places and spaces that are uniquely Sunshine Coast. So, if you love it here as much as we do, and you want to shape our region for the future – you’ll want to join our team!

With the vision to be Australia’s most sustainable region - Healthy, Smart, and Creative, council is at the forefront of delivering a number of region-shaping projects that will see the region become a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity, along with opportunities and a lifestyle for all to enjoy.

About the Role

Working for Sunshine Coast Council is more than having a good local job. Ask our people why they enjoy working with us and they’ll always say our awesome team and community impact.

But we’re also a busy team managing a range of high-impact civil works as the Sunshine Coast transforms from a regional centre to a regional city. You can look forward to job stability and skills development as we tackle some of our biggest infrastructure projects to date.

As a high-growth region and delivery partner in the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we’re trusted to deliver safe, high quality constructed civil assets (of which there’ll be many!).

A Civil Field Worker (Carptenter) is to carry out a hands-on role in delivering and maintaining efficient and effective day-to-day operation of civil maintenance and construction tasks. The role is responsible for general carpentry construction tasks (including labouring) associated with a variety of work areas.

General carpentry construction and structure maintenance including labouring tasks associated with, but not limited to:-
Bridges & Board walks
Concreting
Kerb and channelling
Stormwater drainage & culverts
Roads
Roadside assets
Foreshores and reserves
Removal and disposal of debris.
Provide on the job coaching and development in relation to carpentry tasks to support team capabilities.
Assist the Supervisor with provision of on-the-job coaching as required.
If you enjoy keeping busy, there’s always something for you to do, try, and lend your capable hands to (even on rainy days).

Our team is our difference. Our place is our pride. Our impact is felt every day.

About you

You will have demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member, and perform under limited supervision. Your outstanding problem solving and communication skills will be your keys to following directions and completing tasks within set timeframes. The capacity to learn and use council’s technology and information systems will also be clear.

You will be a trade qualified carpenter or working towards, with a General Induction Construction Card or equivalent. You’ll also possess a class “C” driver’s licence. Significant experience in Local Government construction and maintenance (or equivalent) is also required.

Essential to your success is physical agility and the level of fitness, strength and dexterity to carry out labouring and frequent heavy lifting & bending. As such, appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.

This position operates in high risk, safety sensitive environment and is subject to drug & ******* testing. You must have 0.00% BAC at all times and must not be at risk of impairment as a consequence of drugs during the course of work. A breach of Council’s 7 Safety Essentials warrants a formal response.

In return, you’ll be working with a progressive organisation which strives to be our best and work as one team to deliver high standards of service excellence.

Plus you’ll enjoy all of the lifestyle benefits the Sunshine Coast has to offer.

Our Culture & Employee Benefits

Council is committed to creating an inclusive, culturally diverse, healthy, skilled and dedicated workplace culture. As an employee you will enjoy a range of benefits which include but are not limited to:
