Your New Role
As a Claims (Protect) Technical Consultant, you’ll be a trusted technical specialist within the Protect team, acting as a trustee delegate for claims decisions and payments. You’ll manage complex and escalated claims end‑to‑end, provide expert advice on insurance and legislative matters, and support the broader team through technical leadership and capability uplift. This role reports to the Technical Manager, Protect and works closely with internal stakeholders including Legal, Compliance, Complaints, Member Advisers and external insurers, advisers and legal representatives.
This role is a 12month Max Term contract opportunity
Some responsibilities include:
Manage and resolve complex, escalated or disputed claims across TPD, Income Protection, Death and Terminal Illness (insured and uninsured), with a particular focus on Death benefit matters;
Provide expert technical advice and case management for complaints, disputes, AFCA matters and litigated claims;
Review, challenge and influence insurer decisions to ensure fair member outcomes;
Prepare submissions and present matters to the Complaints & Disputes Executive Panel;
Represent the Trustee at AFCA conciliation conferences;
Interpret and apply insurance policies, legislation and regulatory requirements;
Deliver technical coaching and training to uplift capability across the Protect team;
Identify continuous improvement opportunities using operational excellence tools; and
Build strong relationships with members, beneficiaries, advisers and stakeholders while modelling a Members First approach.
How do you exceed our expectations?

Proven experience managing complex life insurance claims within superannuation or insurance;
Certificate IV in Superannuation (ASFA 100) or Diploma of Superannuation Administration;
RG146 compliance is preferred and Insurance or related qualifications are advantageous;
Demonstrated experience handling disputed claims, complaints and AFCA matters, particularly relating to death benefit claims;
Strong knowledge of insurance policy interpretation, claims liability and regulatory obligations;
Experience preparing technical papers, submissions and evidence to support Trustee decisions;
Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively across diverse stakeholder groups; and
You are balanced in accepting risk in any decision you face. You are curious to understand risk context and choose to speak up as we simplify, learn and grow.
