The School of Design and Creative Arts is seeking a new colleague to undertake a dedicated teaching and scholarship role in the area of Industrial Design. In particular the School are seeking a highly skilled individual in Industrial Design Practice with appropriate teaching and / or professional experience. This is an intensive teaching post that will deliver a variety of skills, knowledge and practice in support of project briefs and assessment tasks to significant student numbers. The post holder will work closely with Academic and Technical staff in developing high quality pedagogic approaches in facilitating the taught programmes, and to ensure outcomes of high standard.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in industrial design practice and/or education, with a passion for studio-based learning, design process, and applied creativity. You will demonstrate excellence in teaching, curriculum design, and student engagement, alongside the ability to mentor junior staff and foster industry collaboration. Key skills include advanced knowledge of industrial design processes, notably hand sketching and ideation skills, CAD and prototyping tools, design for manufacture and a strong understanding of innovation and sustainability in design. Effective communication, project management, and the ability to inspire and lead students are essential.
Key Requirements:
• Extensive Industrial design practice experience in a Higher Education setting and / or in Professional Practice
• To be able to teach and inspire undergraduate and postgraduate students across a range of design modules in core industrial design practice, including skill delivery, design process, product realisation and commercialisation
• To have teaching experience, ideally at a higher education level, or industry based teaching / training experience
• To be a collegiate and respectful colleague capable of working across design and creative arts disciplines in a rich and vibrant community of researchers and practitioners
