Target English International
We run junior summer courses for English language students aged between 10 - 17. We have students from all over the world. The majority will be Italian, but we also have students from Spain, Portugal, Poland, Czech Republic, Argentina and Cyprus to name a few! Students usually stay for two weeks and take part in a mixed programme of lessons and activities/excursions which are run by Activity Leaders.
Our Mission:
At Target English International we aim to provide our students with a comfortable and caring setting in the UK to improve their communication in English and develop skills for a more global society. We want our students to leave the course with a better understanding of UK culture and the inspiration to become life-long learners of English.
Overview of role:
Activity Leaders are at the core of our activities programme. The role requires enthusiastic, personable and energetic individuals to help organise and prepare the social programme (individual to each centre), run activities, take students on trips and excursions and ensure that our students have a memorable, fun and safe time. Activity Leaders need to be flexible and willing to undertake a variety of tasks, as directed.
On weekdays students usually have classes in either the morning or afternoon. The rest of the time is spent with Activity Leaders on local visits, excursions or on-site activities. It is a busy programme and there is always something to do, so the ideal Activity Leader is well-organised, confident and fun with a can-do attitude and is always happy to get involved.
The working week is 48 hours over 6 days. Shifts are split into morning, afternoon and evening and will include working every Saturday and Sunday. You have one full weekday off per week, Due to the nature of Summer School, there may be times when it could be necessary to work additional hours one week, in which case time off in lieu will be given when the needs of the centre allows.
We encourage students to speak English at all times whilst on activities and excursions and Activity Leaders are expected to engage with all students and ensure that English is being practised.
Activity Leaders are required to complete a paid, online induction prior to their contract start. Activity Leaders also complete online Safeguarding and online Prevent training.
Activity Programme
In each centre we run a busy, varied and exciting activity programme, aimed specifically at teenagers. An important aspect of the activity programme is for students to learn about the local history and culture of the area in which they are staying and the UK in general. It is a key part of the Activity Leader’s duties to encourage use of English as much as possible, whilst on excursions and activities with students.
In addition to excursions and local visits we also deliver a wide range of sports and other onsite activities. We also offer Drama workshops in every centre, led by the Drama Activity Leader and supported by Activity Leaders.
