Position Overview

The Building Division within the Planning and Development Department is looking for a regular full-time Clerk III to join their team.
Responsibilities
You will perform moderately complex diversified clerical tasks such as screening new license applications for zoning designations, checking building permit applications to ensure they contain all required information, receiving and balancing fees, summarizing deposits, accepting applications and issuing permits. You will have excellent customer service and will engage with business owners to provide information and advice on the issuance and renewal of business licenses, as well as, applicants to explain regulations related to building permit applications. You will assist with obtaining missing or unclear information and will also contact business owners to collect unpaid licenses, explain rules, regulations and general policy and determine claims, deductions and adjustments. Assigns, reviews and supervises the work of subordinates performing clerical duties and trains and instructs new employees as required. Performs related duties as required.
Requirements
You will have completed courses toward a Diploma of Technology in Building or related discipline, plus have considerable experience with municipal permit administration or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Thorough knowledge of related bylaws, acts, and regulations and a strong competency in reading plans, surveys, and related material will be required. You will also have strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook), keyboarding skills at a minimum net speed of 40 wpm as well as excellent communication and customer service skills.
Compensation
$31.97 to $37.58 per hour
(Pay Grade 17 – 2024 rates)
Hours of Work
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
