The Foundational Learning and Skills Development (FLSD) unit provides financial assistance to eligible individuals pursuing approved programs such as Adult Basic Education, academic upgrading (Grades 10–12), English as an Additional Language (EAL), and skills development training. These programs help learners build the skills they need to participate fully in Alberta’s workforce and communities.


Role Responsibilities
Working as part of a collaborative client services team, the Client Services Coordinator ensures funding decisions are fair, accurate, and aligned with program policy while delivering respectful, client-focused service. Client Services Coordinator supports individuals accessing foundational learning and skills development programs. This role plays an important part in helping Albertans pursue education and training by assessing eligibility for financial assistance and providing clear, timely guidance to students.


As a Client Services Coordinator, you will:


Review and assess applications and supporting documents to determine eligibility for full-time or part-time funding.
Make decisions on financial assistance amounts and reassess eligibility when circumstances change.
Communicate funding decisions clearly and compassionately to students.
Provide information and guidance on program options, requirements, and application processes.
Respond to client inquiries through a call-center environment.
Apply legislation, program policy, and guidelines consistently and accurately.
Update and maintain accurate client records in government information systems.
Identify trends, common issues, and opportunities to improve service delivery and processes.
Work collaboratively with team members to support operational and service goals.

Two-year diploma in a related field; no experience required; or equivalent as described below.


Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:


1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Required:


Experience assessing eligibility, applying policy, or delivering client services in a regulated environment.
Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in sensitive or emotionally charged situations.
Proficiency with information systems and standard office software.

Assets:


Experience working with student funding, financial assistance, or social programs.
Knowledge of government legislation, policy, and accountability frameworks.
Experience in case management or client-focused service delivery.
