Your Role in Our Team:
You’ll be working alongside our civil lawyers, helping our clients navigate a diverse range of civil law matters in the areas of police accountability, child protection, adult guardianship, consumer rights, discrimination, tenancy, social security and victims of crime assistance claims (to name a few).
No two days will be the same – but every day will matter.
Your Day-to-Day Will Include:
Building trust with clients and collecting their stories
Answering Civil Law enquiries, obtaining clear and comprehensive initial instructions from clients by interview over the phone, in person or in custody
Using the Client Management System (CMS) conduct accurate conflict checks and notify solicitors and/or support staff accordingly
Helping lawyers understand cultural context and community dynamics
Coordinating referrals, services, and support for clients
Organising remote civil clinics, promotional materials and advertising
Travelling to remote communities when required
What You’ll Need:
Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture and issues in the legal system
Solid communication skills and confidence working with our mob
Good computer and admin skills (email, Microsoft Office, file notes)
Ability to work independently and within a small, tight-knit team
Experience working with or referring to housing, rehab, community corrections etc.
Ochre Card (or ability to get one)
Current driver’s licence and 4WD readiness
Willingness to travel to remote NT communities
