Clinical Dietitian, Nutrition and Rehabilitation

Under the general supervision of the Clinical Coordinator as well as clinical direction from the Provincial Program Lead, Nutrition & Rehabilitation, performs clinical, education, community development and research activities in keeping with the evidence-based practice of Oncology Nutrition. Duties include providing medical nutrition therapy in collaboration with cancer patients, their families and the interdisciplinary team; participates in initiatives that promote the advancement of oncology nutrition education and participating in the development and implementation of quality improvement/nutrition research projects.
What you’ll do
Use the Nutrition Care Process framework, carry out comprehensive nutrition assessments, identify appropriate nutrition diagnoses, develop and implement patient-centred nutrition intervention and monitor and evaluate nutrition care plans.
Utilize and incorporate clinical tools, such as screening and assessment tools, according to program standards.
Implement and review therapeutic diet orders. Design, compound, dispense and monitor therapeutic diets where nutrition is administered through enteral or parenteral means. Instruct patients on how to administer enteral feeds. Provide guidance to Diet Technicians as required.
Document care plans and reassessment in patient's medical record to meet program standards.
Collaborate with other members of the health care team on matters relating to the nutritional care of patients.
Maintain workload measurement statistics.
Participate in the development, implementation and communication of oncology nutrition practice standards and clinical practice guidelines.
Provide education and consultation to BC Cancer staff, community partners and academic institutions related to oncology nutrition.
What you bring
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Foods and Nutrition, or equivalent, from an approved University and an accredited dietetic internship.
One (1) year of experience in clinical dietetics, with oncology experience preferred or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to BC Cancer.
Current full registration as a Dietitian with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC and eligible for membership in Dietitians of Canada.
Preferably Restricted Activities A, C.
Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples within social and health contexts. This includes understanding how these factors contribute to current health disparities and barriers to care. Show a clear commitment to identifying, challenging, and eradicating Indigenous-specific racism and all forms of discrimination impacting equity-deserving groups within healthcare settings. This involves recognizing personal biases, institutional barriers, engaging in anti-racism education and training and advocating for systemic change.
Knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments within BC Cancer contexts found in the foundational documents including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (201+), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (201+), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study, BC Human Rights Code, Anti-racism Data Act and how they intersect across the health care system.

Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in an interprofessional team with centre staff, patients, and the public and external health professionals.
