Job Description
The ideal candidate brings a strong mix of medical device expertise, IT/networking knowledge, and field service experience. They will be expected to ensure seamless device operation, reliable data integration, and excellent patient and provider experience.
This role will require extensive hands-on technical work with regular travel to practice locations. They will be in close collaboration with the IT, clinical teams, vendors and leadership.
Medical Device Installation & Field Support:
Project management and coordination with device vendors, Eyecare ops to install, configure, and service ophthalmic medical equipment including exam lanes, diagnostic and pretest devices.
Coordinate or perform on-site repair, break/fix, assessment, and replacement of exam lane equipment (chairs, instrument stands, tables, etc.).
Conduct field service assessments to determine repair vs. replacement needs.
Coordinate scheduling, travel, and on-site support for assigned practices.
Medical Device Integration & Connectivity:
Integrate ophthalmic diagnostic devices with Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR) systems.
Support integration of pretest equipment into digital phoropters
Ensure device connectivity, data transmission, and interoperability issues.
Partner with other IT teams on network configuration, security, and system reliability.
IT Infrastructure & Systems Support:
Support and troubleshooting of networking components, including:
Active Directory, DNS, DHCP
VLANs, routing, firewalls, VPN/IPsec
Wireless networking and network security
Assist with workstation setup, system configuration, and device software installations.
Provide backup support for technical ticket queues when not traveling.
Project Management & Vendor Coordination
Lead or support projects related to device acquisition, deployment, upgrades, and standardization.
Coordinate with medical device vendors and internal teams to manage timelines and deliverables.
Assist with technical project planning, documentation, and execution.
Compliance & Documentation & Continuous Improvement:
Maintain detailed records of device inventory, configuration records, and maintenance activities.
Ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and industry regulations, including FDA/ISO guidelines, HIPAA, and other relevant standards.
Stay up to date with advancements in medical device technology and IT solutions to identify opportunities for new technology adoption,
Recommend and implement improvements to optimize device performance and enhance patient care to ensure continued improvements.
Requirements:
Education:
Associates degree in Electronics or related field or equivalent experience is required.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Information Technology field, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optometry, or other related field is preferred.
Any advanced degree or certifications are a plus
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT support, medical device management, or a related field or technical roles.
Hands-on experience with ophthalmic medical devices or their vendors such as:
Topcon, Zeiss, Optos, Marco, Oculus, fundus cameras, OCT, slit lamps, and topographers
Technical Skills:
Strong technical skills with a solid understanding of medical device systems, IT infrastructure, and network security.
Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and support diverse teams.
Strong project management skills, with experience in managing complex projects from inception to completion.
Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewall, routers, switches, controllers. Fortinet FortiGate experience is preferred.
Must be familiar with a wide base of technologies such as networking, network service (DHCP, DNS), wireless networking, and network security
Working knowledge of VLANs and routing.
Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols
Working knowledge of VPN / IPsec VPN topology, setup and trouble shooting.

Travel & Physical Requirements:
Extensive travel required (50%-70%)
Ability to lift up to 90 pounds
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb ladders, work at heights, and operate in confined spaces
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
