This is an exciting opportunity to join the dynamic Women’s Health Clinical Stream at SWSLHD, where you will play a pivotal role in strengthening the governance and quality of maternity services across the district. In this role, you will lead clinical governance, risk management and quality improvement initiatives to ensure safe, evidence‑based antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary maternity teams to promote consistent, high‑quality clinical practice and foster a culture of safety, learning and accountability.
A key focus of the role will be enhancing organisational systems for incident management, audit, compliance and reporting, ensuring alignment with district, state and national standards. You will also influence policy, support service innovation and contribute to strategic planning to advance equitable and culturally responsive maternity care. Through strengthening frameworks for monitoring, evaluation and continuous improvement, you will help drive improved outcomes and experiences for women, babies and families across SWSLHD.

Selection Criteria

Current Authority to Practice as a Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Approved postgraduate nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field in which he/she is appointed or experience deemed appropriate by employer. At least 7 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at leave 5 years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field.
Demonstrated evidence of strategies used to maintain current knowledge of clinical practice advances and research in the relevant specialty.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs and ability to resolve conflicts as they arise.
Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of advanced evidenced base maternity Care.
Demonstrated understanding and participation in maternity risk management processes, and quality improvement projects in maternity.
Demonstrated leadership in strategic and clinical service planning and expertise in the management of organisational and cultural change and knowledge and understanding of the principles of Clinical Governance.
Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P. Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
