About the role..

Join the NSW Spinal Outreach Service at Royal Rehab in this impactful Clinical Nurse Consultant role, where your expertise will make a real difference to people living with spinal cord injury across NSW. Working as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team of allied health, nursing and medical professionals, you will deliver expert assessment, education, consultancy and clinical support to individuals with spinal cord injury, as well as their families, carers and associated care agencies.

This dynamic role offers autonomy, variety and the opportunity to coordinate complex care for people with significant disability, with periodic travel to rural and regional areas as part of the outreach team. This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse with extensive post-registration experience and/or qualifications relevant to spinal cord injury, rehabilitation or community nursing.

Key responsibilities include:
Provide an expert, person-centred, state-wide consultancy practice providing direct patient nursing care.
Provide case coordination for a caseload of spinal clients in the community.
Provide expert nursing leadership to facilitate the ongoing development of clinical excellence in spinal cord injury nursing practice. The CNC will provide specialist clinical nursing assessment, management and advice to clients, carers, nursing staff and other health care professionals in the context of a community setting.
To work collaboratively with other team members on the development and implementation of interdisciplinary programs to assist clients to maximise independence in the community.
To provide state-wide consultation and educational support to hospital and community service providers regarding the needs of clients with a spinal cord injury.
Active contribution to research and quality projects related to spinal nursing.
This position will require periodic travel to rural NSW.


About you..

We seek a self-motivated and friendly individual with:

Essential Criteria:
AHPRA Registered Nurse with a minimum of 5 years post registration experience.
Extensive post-registration experience and/or qualifications relevant to spinal cord injury, neurological conditions, complex disability or chronic illness.
Demonstrated ability to provide high quality clinical interventions to clients with complex spinal health needs.
Ability to develop and promote preventative approaches to client health care with an emphasis on supported self-management and education.
Well-developed case management experience and/or an understanding of the roles and functions of case management within a multi-disciplinary team in community or inpatient settings.
Demonstrated experience in nursing education and professional development, with the ability to provide training to multidisciplinary staff.
Demonstrated ability to participate in audit preparation and quality assurance/improvement processes, ensuring high standards of clinical service delivery.
Ability to identify significant clinical issues and recommend strategic, evidence-based improvements that enhance service effectiveness, efficiency, and best-practice outcomes in collaboration with management.
Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
Demonstrated ability to accurately keep records including written client records and administrative records in accordance with policies and procedures.
Current C unrestricted drivers’ license or equivalent with access to own car.
Competent computer user, specifically with Microsoft products.
Ability to travel throughout rural NSW (approx. 3 times/year, for 3-4 nights duration on each occasion).
Desirable Criteria:
Experience in a community-based health care setting.
Evidence of participation in clinical research and skills to undertake research.
Demonstrated understanding of adult learning styles.
