Job Description
We are seeking an experienced IT professional to join our team as a Cloud Systems Engineer (Azure/M365). This role is critical to driving successful cloud migrations, delivering robust virtual desktop solutions, and optimizing our Microsoft 365 services. Reporting to the IT Manager, the ideal candidate will take ownership of complex technical tasks, serve as a trusted escalation point, and contribute innovative ideas to improve workflows and processes across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
1. Azure Cloud Solutions
Perform detailed assessments of clients' current on-premises infrastructure to design tailored Azure migration plans.
Execute the migration of servers and applications to Azure with minimal downtime, ensuring compatibility and scalability.
Deploy, configure, and maintain Azure Virtual Desktops, optimizing their performance and ensuring security best practices.
Proactively monitor Azure environments, resolve performance bottlenecks, and implement improvements.
Leverage Microsoft Azure for cloud services, including virtual machines, databases, and storage solutions, to support diverse business needs.
Conduct in-depth research and provide recommendations on standards, products, and services to optimize operations.
Deliver high-availability operational support and automate processes to enhance efficiency and scalability.
Serve as a subject matter expert (SME), collaborating with management, developers, architects, and business analysts to ensure alignment with defined strategies and best practices.
Make complex technical recommendations confidently, fostering collaboration and engaging in constructive discussions to drive decision-making.
2. Microsoft 365 Level 3 Escalation Point
Act as an escalation point for Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and other connected platforms.
Conduct seamless migrations of client data and services to Microsoft 365, ensuring compliance with industry standards and organizational requirements.
Manage Teams Phone integrations, overseeing configurations, number porting, and testing to ensure reliable communication solutions for clients.
Continuously evaluate the utilization of Microsoft 365 services to suggest enhancements and resolve issues promptly.
3. Process Improvement & Innovation
Analyze current workflows and systems, identifying inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
Research and propose innovative tools, platforms, or methodologies to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, or improve client outcomes.
Leverage insights and strategies learned from previous roles to introduce new practices or technologies that align with business goals.
4. Technical Leadership
Provide Level 3 support by acting as an escalation point for complex issues that Level 2 technicians cannot resolve.
Conduct root cause analyses for recurring technical issues, proposing and implementing long-term solutions.
Develop documentation and technical guides to support troubleshooting and empower the team with knowledge.
5. Collaboration & Communication
Participate in project-specific client meetings to present migration plans, progress updates, and post-implementation reviews.
Foster a collaborative environment within the team by sharing technical insights and mentoring junior staff.
6. Cloud Security
Apply robust security practices to safeguard cloud infrastructure, access controls, and proactive threat mitigation strategies, utilizing Coro (which we currently use) and other security-related platforms where required.
Continuously assess the current infrastructure to identify vulnerabilities, recommend enhancements, and implement improvements as part of a continuous improvement program.
Identify, deploy, and maintain cloud security tools and controls, extending enterprise security tools to the cloud while incorporating advanced threat intelligence.
Conduct security assessments of both existing and proposed cloud services to ensure robust protection.
Lead efforts to identify, assess, and mitigate cybersecurity risks specific to cloud services.
Develop and enforce cloud security policies, procedures, and standards, including business continuity and regulatory compliance requirements, ensuring enterprise-wide awareness.
Ensure cloud security requirements are integrated into project plans and workflows.
Design and implement auditing, assessment, and testing protocols for security controls, including third-party services, to maintain a secure cloud environment.
Technical Skills
Azure Expertise: Proven track record of migrating on-premises infrastructure to Azure and deploying Azure Virtual Desktops.
Microsoft 365 Knowledge: In-depth experience with Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and other M365 services.
Teams Phones: Demonstrated ability to manage Teams Phone configurations and integrations.
Networking: Strong understanding of network protocols and advanced troubleshooting. BONUS: strong knowledge of networking hardware such as routers, firewalls, switches, vLans, etc.
