About the Role
The Commercial Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring Keller’s commercial and contractual success across our regional projects. You will manage commercial risks, provide contract management support, and work closely with operational teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with both industry standards and internal governance. This role involves the representation of Keller’s commercial interests during client negotiations, providing guidance on procurement, supporting tender strategy and processes, and ensuring compliance with company and legal requirements.
This position initially would be a 12-month fixed term contract with the view to permanency.
Key Responsibilities
Review, assess, and negotiate client contracts, identifying and managing risks, and providing guidance on contract adherence, change management, and claims
Develop and prepare departure tables for contract negotiation with clients, including redrafting clauses and special conditions
Collaboratively negotiate the commercial components of tenders in alignment with the State’s tender strategy, taking responsibility for developing departure schedules, commercial drafting, legal obligations and conducting thorough risk and opportunity assessments, including coordination with insurance brokers on project‑specific requirements
Advise operational teams on commercial best practices and procurement, ensuring compliance with company policies and governance
Manage disputes with clients, subcontractors, or suppliers and coordinate with external legal advisers as required
Maintain strong stakeholder relationships, collaborate and contribute during client negotiations, and represent Keller to clients, subcontractors, and suppliers
Support project teams through Rights and Obligations summaries and participate in kick-off meetings to ensure commercial clarity
Ensure work is conducted safely and in alignment with HSEQ policies and legislative requirements
About You
Tertiary qualifications in Law, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Construction Management.
Proven experience reviewing, amending, and negotiating contracts.
Apply your experience to interpret risk profiles and thoughtfully assess commercial, scope, and delivery considerations, enabling balanced, mutually beneficial outcomes with clients.
Communicate commercial and legal concepts in a clear, accessible way to support a strong understanding across all stakeholder groups.
Strong commercial acumen with the ability to interpret contractual and legal issues.
Thrives in a dynamic environment, effectively meeting stakeholder deadlines while balancing multiple priorities with confidence and professionalism.
Skilled negotiator with excellent stakeholder engagement skills.
Ability to mentor engineers and supervisors in commercial best practice.
Strong risk awareness and ability to prioritise risk in a construction environment.
Clear written and verbal communication with confident presentation skills.
Proactive, independent, and capable of building trusted relationships across clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
