Job Description
Carter Forest Products is a privately owned, family‑run business built on multi‑decade partnerships. We serve customers across North America in truckload and railcar quantities and provide a seamless, end‑to‑end experience with a single, accountable point of contact for every order. Our service‑first culture is why so many companies trust us as their long‑term lumber partner.
The Opportunity
We’re hiring an exceptionally motivated, hardworking, phone‑first sales professional to build and grow a book of business in commodity lumber. You will spend the majority of your day on the phone-prospecting, developing new accounts, negotiating supply agreements, and turning market insight into deals. Success comes from disciplined cold calling, pipeline creation, and structured learning.
What You’ll Do
· Drive new business through high‑volume outbound prospecting and cold calling; build and manage a robust, qualified pipeline.
· Promote lumber and wood products daily to customers across North America; uncover needs and align solutions.
· Track markets (pricing, supply/demand) and translate insights into timely recommendations for customers and colleagues.
· Set and manage buy/sell pricing; negotiate contracts with suppliers and customers.
· Learn the flow of goods and trade dynamics across North America for bulk commodity products-and apply that knowledge in your deals.
· Manage and grow key accounts (from purchasing managers to owners) through consistent follow‑up, service, and problem‑solving.
· Maintain accurate activity and opportunity records (CRM) and partner with Logistics and Finance for smooth execution.
What You Bring
· Minimum 2 years of B2B sales experience with a strong phone presence and a proven record of successful cold calling.
· Entrepreneurial drive, resilience, and competitive spirit—you thrive in a metrics‑driven, high‑activity environment.
· Commercial acumen and comfort with numbers; you can analyze markets and negotiate confidently.
· Post‑secondary degree is an asset; equivalent business experience considered.
· Clear, professional communication skills and the ability to build rapport quickly by phone.
Work Environment
· Phone‑based role: expect to spend extended periods on the phone every day.
· On‑site, five days per week to collaborate closely with the team and accelerate your learning curve.
Compensation & Benefits
· Base salary: $50,000–$65,000 (commensurate with experience).
· Commission: High performers can regularly exceed $100,000 in commission within 12–24 months.
· Benefits: Extended health care, dental care, and an Employee Assistance Program.
· Perks: Paid time off, free on‑site parking, bright/open office across from a gym, and access to training & development programs.
Why Carter
We prioritize long‑term relationships over short‑term wins, pair best‑in‑class service with a single point of contact, and back our traders with an experienced team that moves quickly—on challenges big and small. If you bring the grit, urgency, and phone‑first hustle, we’ll help you build a durable, high‑performing book of business.
How to Apply
Please submit your resume and a brief note describing why a high‑activity, phone‑driven sales role in lumber trading interests you. We thank all applicants for their interest; only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
