The Opportunity

The Ministry of Education has an exciting opportunity in the Communications and Sector Relations Branch for a full-time Communications Consultant. This branch develops and delivers clear and concise messaging to inform and engage Saskatchewan citizens. We are a team of innovative and knowledgeable leaders who strive for excellence. The ideal candidate will:

have a strong background in writing communication materials and strategies, including creating materials for traditional and digital audiences; and
work independently and participate as a contributing member of a team to ensure goals and objectives are met.
You will have knowledge of:

communications principles, theories, tools and vehicles;
the use of appropriate grammar, syntax, spelling and vocabulary; and,
current public policy issues, including matters around education.
You will have the ability to:

research, write, edit, and manage approvals for a variety of communications materials including news releases, backgrounders, key messages, speeches, meeting packages, and web and social media content;
design, implement, manage and evaluate communications plans to support the goals and objectives of the ministry;
develop and maintain positive relationships with staff and stakeholders;
ensure accuracy and timeliness of information through regular collaboration with subject matter experts and leadership;
advise senior officials on communications issues, providing analysis and recommending an appropriate strategy to achieve desired outcomes;
monitor issues and trends to anticipate, identify, and assess broad issues in the context of the impact on the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education; and,
accomplish required tasks within established timeframes in a demanding environment with diverse and conflicting workload pressures.
You will be:

a strategic thinker who is innovative and proactive in your approach to issues management;
diplomatic, tactful and reliable in order to communicate effectively; and,
energetic, organized and flexible in order to respond quickly and positively in an ever-changing, demanding work environment.
Typically, the knowledge for this position would be obtained through completion of a certificate or degree in journalism or communications or other related fields of study, and several years of progressively responsible experience in communications. A combination of education and work experience will be considered.

An advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and communications related software including InDesign, Google Analytics, social media analytics, SharePoint analytics, video editing programs and/or Photoshop is considered an asset.

Reference checks, including global checks.
Bilingualism in both official languages would also be an asset.
