Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation (YMAC) is the Native Title Representative Body (NTRB), delivering native title and other services across the Pilbara, Mid West, Murchison and Gascoyne regions of Western Australia. YMAC is run by a First Nations board of directors, representing several native title groups, each of whom have their own language, culture, traditions and protocols.
YMAC services include native title claim and future act representation; heritage services; executive office, community, and economic development assistance; land administration, and natural resource management support.

About the Role:
YMAC is currently seeking a full time (75 hours per fortnight) Communications Coordinator to join the team in our Perth office on a 12-month Fixed Term Long-Term Leave Cover Contract. The primary aim of this role is to promote the work and achievements of YMAC both internally and externally through the implementation of sound communications strategies, including publications, promotional activity, advocacy and stakeholder engagement, event coordination, and effective media management and liaison.
In this role you will lead a variety of projects, often collaborating both within the team and across our multidisciplinary organisation and in multiple locations, in support of achieving strong outcomes for Traditional Owners in our representative regions.
About You:
You will have the ability to design, produce and project manage internal and external communication publications and compliance deliverables with exceptional / strong writing skills, with a sound understanding of how internal and external strategies can be implemented efficiently and effectively. You will be able to demonstrate at least four (4) years’ experience in a communications, stakeholder engagement or equivalent role, with relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing, journalism or similar. Writing for diverse audiences in both digital and traditional media is something you love doing, and have a talent for doing so.
Working in a team of fellow self-starters, you will embrace the opportunity to take ownership of your work and will have the ability to multitask and prioritise effectively.
Qualifications & Experience
At least four (4) years’ experience in a communication, stakeholder engagement or equivalent role.
Relevant tertiary qualification in communications, marketing, journalism or similar
Experience in campaign and event management, including management of external consultants and service providers, and liaison with external suppliers
Experience in developing, writing, and producing print publications (e.g. newsletters, reports, brochures)
Experience in digital marketing using print, online, and radio mediums
Experience in media management and liaison (desirable)
Experience in stakeholder engagement and advocacy (desirable)

Written and oral
Presentation
Stakeholder liaison
Demonstrated computer literacy skills in MS Applications with ability to use design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud – InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
Skills and experience with multimedia, website management and social media strategies.
Ability to work on and prioritise multiple tasks and projects, concurrently.
Attributes & Desired Knowledge
A strong connection to, or interest in, Aboriginal culture.
Prepared to travel extensively and at times to remote Aboriginal communities.
Highly organised, and with strong attention to detail.
Team player, willing to work collaboratively within and across teams.
Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving capability.
Proactive and flexible attitude, with the ability to work unsupervised but under direction.
Working knowledge of native title system, heritage management, or a background in Aboriginal affairs preferred.
Knowledge of (or a desire to learn) how government works, how legislation is made, how policy is implemented.
Knowledge of media (WA and national).
Good understanding of State and Federal Government processes and communications.
