Salary: $+0,623 to $101,416 per annum (based on 70 hours per fortnight), plus superannuation and a + day fortnight

Appointed salary in this range will be based on skills, qualifications, and experience.

About us

Hornsby Shire is located on Sydney's upper north shore, approximately 25 kilometres north of the CBD. Known as the ‘Bushland Shire’, our local government area is characterised by bushland comprising national park, major waterways, natural reserves and rural landscape. The rest of the Shire combines urban, rural and open spaces.

About the role

This role will focus on social media and digital production and will work closely with another Communications Coordinator who focuses on media and written communications. Each Coordinator will easily be able to step into the other’s shoes when required and work together seamlessly on a day-to-day basis.

The position will:

Form transparent and trustworthy relationships with our community through social and traditional media.
Create healthy two-way conversations between Council and our community to inform and shape the services we provide.
Position Council positively and inform and update the community and stakeholders about Council news, services, programs, events and engagement opportunities.
Liaise with Council staff, members of the community and other key stakeholders to prepare timely and accurate social media, media and other public content.
Producing social media content for a range of platforms – with a strong focus on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn – to grow and nurture social communities.
Create compelling video content that can be used across various platforms.
Council has an ambitious program for 2026 and beyond, including the redevelopments of Hornsby Park and the Hornsby Town Centre Masterplan, which will provide diverse opportunities for proactive communications and content.

About you

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in media relations, public relations, communications or other related field of study

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

Solid depth of experience (5+ years) producing digital content and social media content calendars or strategies.
Demonstrated ability to work in high-pressure, politically sensitive environments where effective stakeholder relationships are integral to successfully protecting and promoting Council's brand.
The ability to recognise, produce, create and develop great audio, visual and written content across multiple social and traditional media channels.
Demonstrated ability to prepare high quality written materials across a range of mediums.
Proven ability to build and maintain productive and proactive relationships, including internally and with media.
A feel for design aesthetics and corporate branding, ensuring consistency between Council’s social, media, digital and print content.
Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, with skills and experience in Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator and more.
