Job Description
Inclusion Canada is currently recruiting for a Communications Intern – Summer Student Position. This is an excellent opportunity for a returning post-secondary student to work for a national organizational leading a social change movement, using stories to change lives and defend rights. The Communications Intern will work with the Senior Communications Officer and the Digital Marketing Officer to support the development and implementation of social, digital, and emerging media campaigns in support of Inclusion Canada’s strategic initiatives and overall communications goals. Funding provided through the Federal Canada Summer Jobs Program and Inclusion Canada – position is approximately 12 weeks at $18/hr.
Inclusion Canada has a distributed team and remote work is possible within Canada.
Responsibilities
· Develop content and assist with producing internal and external communications products, including Inclusion Canada’s social media content, news blasts, press releases, marketing materials, and more
· Monitor public dialogue and current issues relevant to the organization and its strategic priorities
· Curate and manage digital inventory of visual and social assets, including assessing existing posts for “evergreen” content
· Assist in organizing and providing support to online forums and webinars
· Assist in the development of promotional campaigns in support of Inclusion Canada’s strategic initiatives
· Contribute to multimedia storytelling through video creation and editing for digital campaigns, webinars, and events
· Support the use of AI tools to enhance communication and content creation workflows, including drafting, scheduling, and audience analysis
Competencies
· · A passion for social justice and equity issues, including but not limited to disability inclusion
· Strong writing and editing skills and demonstrated ability to influence and develop accurate and persuasive content
· Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office programs, Wix, WordPress, Adobe, Canva, and desktop publishing programs
· Demonstrated experience using social media platforms and tools to build brand awareness
· Familiarity with generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Canva Magic Studio, Adobe Firefly) and how they can be applied in communications work
· Experience in graphic design an asset
· Attention to detail, strong follow-through, and the ability to remain organized and responsive to multiple priorities and deadlines
· Strong interpersonal skills including a professional manner and good judgment
· Knowledge of the social justice sector, and particularly the disability sector, considered an asset
· Preference will be given post-secondary students enrolled in a discipline relevant to communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field
All Candidates Must
Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
· Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
· Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
Note: As this position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program, international students are not eligible.
