We are seeking a dynamic communications and marketing professional to support our Transport and Infrastructure (T&I) business on a 12 month Fixed-Term basis, covering maternity leave.
Tekōwhiringa | The Opportunity
Our Communications and Marketing Manager (NZ) plays a pivotal role in shaping and delivering marketing and communications strategies across our New Zealand operational and trans-Tasman functional lines of business. In this role, you will lead communications and marketing planning and activities across a business of 6,500 people, reporting to the General Manager for Strategy & Growth with a direct line of communication to the senior leadership team. This is a role where your ability to collaborate, influence, plan and drive engagement will shine.
Key responsibilities include:
External Marketing: Develop and execute strategic marketing plans for Hawkins and Transport & Infrastructure NZ, supporting operational teams and co-managing various channels.
Brand: Be a champion of and quality-controller for our various brands, working with our internal design team and external providers to ensure our public-facing materials reflect the business.
Communications and Engagement: Facilitate effective communication strategies, manage news distribution and create impactful end-to-end campaigns.
Public Relations (PR): Develop media plans, manage relationships with media contacts, and handle high-profile media responses.
EGM and SLT Support: Work closely with senior leaders to communicate the business' strategy and enhance their profiles.
Events: Plan and lead high-priority internal and external events, ensuring alignment with our strategy and brand.
Awards and Conferences: Lead identification and planning of key strategic events to ensure our impactful presence and provide support to operational teams in award submissions.
People Focus: Promote the Downer Difference and our High-Performance culture, supporting staff engagement initiatives.
Zero Harm: Integrate Zero Harm messaging into all communications and promote a safe working environment.

You will bring a fresh innovative approach and the ability to grasp and bring complex concepts or technical material to life in simplified ways. Experience in using human centred design thinking, or service design methodologies is advantageous. We'd also value:
Minimum 4 years' communications experience
Proven track record within transport, infrastructure and / or commercial construction sectors
Relevant tertiary qualification is essential
Exceptional organisational and communication skills
Strong relationship building skill and mentoring experience
Proficiency in Microsoft (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Dynamics, and Outlook)
Experience in using Adobe Creative Suite (particularly InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator) is desirable
Experience in using human centred design thinking, or service
