He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Resilience & Infrastructure plays an integral role as the kaitiaki (guardian) of Auckland Council’s asset portfolio. These assets range from community buildings such as libraries, pools and recreation centres, to open spaces like our regional parks, sports parks and campgrounds.


Community leases activate and promote the wellbeing of our communities by providing leases and licences of land and buildings for community activities through community occupancy agreements.


We’re looking for a Community Lease Specialist to join our Leasing team here at Auckland Council. As a Community Lease Specialist, you’ll be making a vital contribution to our region by ensuring our facilities are utilised to their full potential. Responsible for managing leases of our buildings and land, you will help to ensure our leasing portfolio delivers community benefit while supporting broader strategic outcomes identified in both local board and regional plans and policies.


Your main responsibilities will include processing applications for community occupancy on Council land and buildings, managing relationships with tenants and other key stakeholders, completing the statutory requirements for occupancies, as well as making recommendations and reporting to governance boards for approval on new and existing leases, variations, assignments and other lease functions.


Alongside drafting and preparing community lease documents, you’ll also be managing existing leases in a pro-active way to ensure all Council responsibilities and community outcomes are being met while maintaining accurate lease data and delivering on local board work programmes. You will prepare and manage rent reviews, support operational recoveries and deliver property related value for money through community occupancies.


Please Note: This is a Fixed Term Part Time position - ending 2nd April 2026. You will be expcted to work Monday-Thursday 9am-5pm


He kōrero mōu: About you

With an analytical mind and impeccable communication skills, you’ll have previous experience in property management, contract management, law, community engagement or community policy development. Ideally, you’ll have a good understanding of local government legislation and the Reserves Act.


You’ll be a natural at building relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and be skilled in negotiating your way through complex or political environments. As a committed problem solver, you’ll have a knack for thinking strategically. You’ll be comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint, while any experience with SAP and GIS will be well regarded.


This role requires travel to other parts of the Auckland region, so it is important that you hold a New Zealand driver’s license.
