Job Description

Job description
Community Nurse (Mental Health/Learning Disability) - Waltham Forest CAMHS

Are you a passionate Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurse eager to make a difference in the lives of children and young people? Waltham Forest CAMHS invites you to join our motivated team supporting Children, Young People (CYP), and their families.

Role Overview: Work across our Behaviour and Emotional Difficulties pathways, providing tailored interventions to CYP with mental health challenges, learning disabilities (LD), and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). You’ll help manage challenging behaviours, enhance positive behaviours, and support emotional resilience.

Why Join Us?
• Innovative Environment: Contribute to a new and evolving pathway, influencing service development.
• Professional Growth: Access training, supervision, and opportunities to expand your community mental health expertise.
• Creative Engagement: Engage with CYP through innovative methods, especially younger children.

Who Should Apply? We seek nurses passionate about working with children and young people, with experience in mental health and learning disabilities. This role offers a rewarding and impactful career path.

International Applicants: Explore becoming a UK-based registered nurse through the Capital Nurse consortium. Visit Capital Nurse London for details.

The post holder will be expected to complete detailed mental health assessments for young people, including the identification and management of risk to themselves, others or from others.

The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and will bring a nursing view to the team and when representing the service in meetings with other agencies. They will contribute to a learning environment for student nurses and will mentor students. They will be expected to engage in regular clinical supervision and safeguarding supervision.

The post holder will be expected to maintain a caseload of young people, working in an evidenced based and time limited way, including use of outcome monitoring to measure progress and client satisfaction. Interventions may involve working individually with young people and their carers, but also with families and groups. Sessions will take place at the team base and at other locations in the community, so willingness to work in an agile way within the borough is essential.
