The role
As a Compliance Officer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring State Significant Development projects in NSW are delivered responsibly and meet key environmental, planning and compliance standards. You’ll be part of a high-performing, high-impact team where you will have the opportunity to grow your expertise in planning, compliance, policy, and regulatory affairs. You’ll dive into interesting and varied compliance matters, working closely with experienced colleagues and stakeholders to support strong and consistent regulatory outcomes.
Your work will be diverse and engaging. Your ability to stay ahead of evolving legislation, manage multiple priorities, and navigate a fast-paced, high-volume environment will be valued. Your day‑to‑day work may include reviewing documentation, undertaking site visits, engaging with stakeholders and recommending regulatory decisions. With occasional travel and varied casework, no two days will look the same, giving you the chance to build strong judgement and practical problem‑solving skills. What you will bring to the role
A developing investigative skill set and strong interest in conducting high-quality regulatory investigations into alleged breaches across State Significant infrastructure and Development projects, including roads, rail, mines, quarries, housing, and energy developments.
Strong attention to detail when undertaking inspections of complex projects, ensuring compliance with approval conditions and enforcing regulatory action when necessary.
Analytical and reporting abilities to review monitoring reports and other compliance documentation submitted by proponents in accordance with consent conditions.
Stakeholder engagement skills to collaborate effectively with government agencies, industry proponents, environmental groups, and the community, fostering positive compliance outcomes.
Problem-solving and responsiveness to address complaints related to State Significant projects, providing clear and effective resolutions while upholding regulatory standards.
Your ability to navigate high-profile projects, enforce compliance measures, and work across diverse sectors will make a tangible impact in ensuring best-practice environmental management and regulatory integrity across NSW.
What is an essential requirement:
Degree in law, planning, environmental management, engineering or other relevant discipline
Willingness to travel and (minimum) C Driver’s License
