Compounding Pharmacist Job Description
Job Overview: The Compounding Pharmacy Technician will assist the pharmacist with providing safe and appropriate pharmacy services to our patients in accordance with the policies and procedures of Pharmacy Solutions, the state’s professional standards, and other regulatory entities. The Compounding Technician works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, working in the clean room and compounding medication. A compounding Technician is experienced in all aspects of medication compounding and plays a significant role in the coordination of patient services.
Serving as an educator for patients about their medications, encouraging them to adhere to their treatment plans, and answering questions about their prescriptions
Reviewing prescriptions for possible errors before filling them or recommending changes to the prescriber if necessary
Working closely with patients to develop treatment plans and manage chronic conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure
Prescribing medications to patients based on their needs, working with physicians to develop treatment plans
Recommending new medications or changing dosages to improve patient health or eliminate side effects of current medications
Evaluating the effectiveness of medications, adjusting dosages as needed, and changing medications as indicated
Prescribing medications approved by a physician, based on their knowledge of pharmacology and experience with different medications
Managing inventory of medications by ordering new supplies, checking expiration dates to ensure that they are not outdated, and returning unused medications to the manufacturer or pharmacist for disposal
Administering immunizations and other preventative measures to patients to help them avoid contracting contagious diseases such as influenza or measles
