The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is a critical participant in the administration of justice within Western Australia, providing an independent and effective criminal prosecution service and confiscation practice.

The Legal Practice Support Branch delivers paralegal, clerical and administrative support services throughout the criminal, civil and appellate areas of the ODPP. The Branch is made up of a group of experienced people leaders, supervisors, and a dedicated team of paralegals and legal practice support officers.

The Confiscation Team at the ODPP manages civil litigation and other functions under the
Criminal Property Confiscation Act 2000 (WA) to facilitate the confiscation of property arising from criminal and unlawful activities or that is the property of a declared drug trafficker.

About the Role

Our Paralegals play a key role in supporting the delivery of civil legal services across a diverse and often high-volume caseload. As a Confiscations Paralegal, you’ll progress civil confiscation matters efficiently, working closely with Legal Officers to prepare cases, solve problems, and meet deadlines.

Paralegal officers are responsible for the day-to-day management of allocated confiscation cases, delivering end-to-end case management, including evidence gathering, drafting court documents, memoranda and correspondence, liaising with parties, and assisting in the resolution of matters, under the supervision and guidance of legal officers.

The role calls for strong case management, therefore, attention to detail, clear communication skills (including well-developed written and use of verbal skills), and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, including mentoring will be critical for the role. Also, the ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies, and procedures will be required.

Whether your background is in paralegal work, case management, civil litigation or dispute resolution, this is an opportunity to apply your skills in a meaningful way and contribute to achieving fair and just outcomes for the community. While a legal background is preferred, candidates with well-developed administrative experience are welcome to apply.

Suitable applicants will be placed in a recruitment pool. This pool will run for a period of twelve months and may be used to fill other similar permanent and fixed-term full time and part time vacancies if they arise and subject to business needs.
