Job Description

Full job description
At Transgrid, we play a crucial role in delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable energy to millions of Australians. Operating over 13,000 km of high-voltage transmission lines and 128 substations across NSW and the ACT, we connect electricity generators to the distribution network—powering homes, businesses, and communities.

As the energy sector evolves, we’re growing our workforce to drive innovation and transformation.

The Opportunity | Newcastle & Hunter Region

As Transgrid continues to grow and deliver one of the largest infrastructure programs in the country, we are creating new Construction Team Manager roles across both our Substations and Transmission Lines construction teams, to strengthen leadership capability, support increasing team size, and uplift culture across our construction workforce.

These roles are critical in shaping how our construction teams perform, connect and grow.
As a Construction Team Manager, you’ll lead teams of Construction Electricians, Construction Managers, Site Managers and Senior Site Managers across multiple locations. Your focus will be on people leadership, performance, capability uplift and operational alignment, ensuring our construction workforce is supported to deliver safely, efficiently and consistently.

These roles support construction delivery across NSW and offer the flexibility to be based from multiple locations, with regular travel to support teams and projects as required.

This is a leadership role for someone who thrives on developing others, creating structure within complex environments, and building high‑performing, connected teams.

A Day in the Life at Transgrid
As a Construction Team Manager, you play a pivotal role in enabling the successful delivery of substation and transmission construction projects across the state.

Your days are centred on leading, coordinating and supporting construction resources, ensuring teams are appropriately planned, capable and performing at their best. You’ll work closely with the Construction Delivery Manager and broader project teams to balance competing priorities, respond to changing delivery demands and maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, cost and schedule outcomes.

A typical week may involve:
Coordinate and plan construction resources to meet current and forward project demands, including developing and managing rolling 3–6 month resource plans in partnership with the Construction Coordinator.
Support construction delivery across multiple sites, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with approved construction plans and standards.
Lead, coach and provide performance feedback to Construction Managers, Site Managers and field‑based resources to drive capability uplift and consistent performance.
Monitor construction progress, risks and constraints, contributing to practical solutions that support schedule, cost and quality outcomes.
Partner with Engineering, Commissioning and other delivery functions to align sequencing, handovers and ways of working, while maintaining visibility across sites and reinforcing consistent expectations.

About You
You are an experienced construction leader who understands the complexity of delivering large‑scale infrastructure in a highly regulated environment. You bring a balance of operational discipline and people‑centred leadership, with the ability to coordinate resources, manage performance and support teams through changing priorities.

You’re comfortable working across multiple projects and locations, and you take pride in creating structure, clarity and consistency for your teams.

To succeed, you’ll bring:
Proven experience leading construction teams within major infrastructure or utilities environments with a strong commitment to safety, wellbeing and continuous improvement.
Strong capability in resource planning, workforce coordination and performance management across multiple projects or sites.
Proven ability to develop capability and uplift competency, supporting progression and consistent standards across teams.
A collaborative approach to working with project, engineering and commissioning stakeholders to achieve aligned delivery outcomes.
Sound commercial awareness and an understanding of delivery time, cost and risk drivers.
Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent industry experience and a current Australian Driver’s Licence with willingness to travel as required.

Leading in this Role at Transgrid
At Transgrid, leadership is about creating clarity, driving connection, and enabling people to do their best work. Our leaders embody our principles of Courage, Care, Clarity, and Connection and this role is a true reflection of those values in action.

As a Construction Team Manager, you will lead by example in how you engage your teams and stakeholders. You’ll support your people through change, challenge inefficient ways of working, and help build a consistent, high‑performing construction function that delivers for our customers and communities.

Benefits & Perks
At Transgrid, we empower our people with a well-rounded benefits package designed to support their personal, professional, and social well-being, helping them deliver their best work every day. Employees have access to a range of corporate discounts across retail, utilities, travel, health & wellbeing etc., as well as novated leasing options, workplace flexibility, 20 weeks paid parental leave and more.

Beyond benefits, we believe in real development and progression. Here, you’ll have access to regular and ongoing training, tertiary education support, and career mentoring. Enabling you to build a career that evolves with you.
