The Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist will work at Dunes ward, Hartley Hospital, providing clinical care to older adults who require specialist inpatient care. The role involves leading the multidisciplinary team and working closely with various clinical and professional disciplines to deliver holistic care.
Main Duties:
Complete assessments and formulate treatment plans for service users admitted to Dunes ward.
Manage patients who have been detained under the Mental Health Act, requiring a sound knowledge of Mental Health Act law.
Lead the multidisciplinary team, fostering positive working relationships and morale among ward staff.
Provide leadership and training to trainee doctors and medical students placed on Dunes ward.
Develop and implement safe discharge planning for inpatients, working closely with Social Services and Primary Care teams.

Job Responsibilities:
Regular reviews of inpatients to monitor response to treatments, operating within multi-disciplinary integrated and co-located teams.
Liaise closely with Social Services to ensure safe and timely discharge planning of inpatients.
Communicate promptly with primary care services by providing discharge summaries.
Person Specification:
Full registration with the General Medical Council.
Eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council or within 6 months of CCST/CCT in Old Age Psychiatry.
Section 12 (2) Approval + Approved Clinician Status or demonstrated ability to gain approval.
Good standing with the GMC regarding warning and conditions on practice.
Transport:
Holds a valid UK driving licence and uses own car for work-related travel.
Provides evidence of proposed alternative transport arrangements.
Qualification and Training:
Mb Chb, MBBS or equivalent qualification.
Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent, with 3 years higher professional training in Old Age Psychiatry.
Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management.
Clinical Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
Excellent clinical knowledge and skills using a bio-psycho-social perspective.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
Makes decisions based on evidence and experience.
