About the Team

Our client, a UK Top 50 law firm, has a national Construction & Engineering team that handles all aspects of the built environment, from infrastructure to commercial and residential projects, including offices, retail, logistics, and production facilities. This specialist team of 28 construction and engineering law experts covers both the “front end” of projects-drafting and negotiating contracts-and resolving disputes through negotiation, settlement, or formal dispute resolution procedures.

The team acts for some of the most prominent names in the construction and engineering sectors, representing public and private sector employers, contractors, consultants, funds, and sub-contractors. With a strong reputation across the UK, they offer exceptional legal expertise to clients across the construction industry.

The Role

Our client is seeking a Contentious Construction Lawyer (2+PQE) to join their offices in Birmingham.

The role offers the opportunity to work on a broad range of contentious construction matters across the industry, including adjudication and Technology and Construction Court (TCC) work. Depending on your level of experience, you will manage your own caseload or assist the national team on larger, complex disputes. You will work within a supportive and experienced team, offering a collaborative approach to clients and a high level of service.

This is a fast-paced role, requiring strong communication skills and a passion for construction law. The team emphasizes client satisfaction and commercial success while maintaining a corporate level of service with a personal touch.

There are excellent opportunities for progression, and you will be encouraged to participate in business development and client management activities.

Key Responsibilities

Manage financial aspects of cases, including time recording, billing, and achieving firm-set targets, as well as overseeing WIP (work in progress).
Actively contribute to business development efforts, ensuring client retention and the expansion of the firm’s client base.
Keep up to date with legal developments and maintain technical expertise.
Take responsibility for personal professional development and the continuous improvement of interpersonal and soft skills.
Adhere to SRA competence standards and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Perform other reasonable tasks as needed.

Your Skills and Qualifications

Relevant experience in contentious construction work, with the appropriate level of post-qualified experience (PQE) for the role.
Strong commercial acumen and an understanding of clients’ industries and businesses.
Proven financial management skills and the ability to meet client expectations.
Good IT skills, with experience in case management systems, electronic time recording, and Microsoft Office.
A self-starting, friendly individual with excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to consistently demonstrate and embody the firm’s core values.

Why Join?

Our client offers a supportive and inclusive work environment where people care about each other, and employee wellbeing is a priority. They provide a clear progression pathway and leadership support, ensuring individual ambition aligns with the firm’s growth. The firm celebrates success and hard work through employee recognition programs, and their rewards and benefits are among the best in the industry.

With a commitment to diversity and mutual respect, this firm fosters a culture where everyone has the freedom to be themselves and thrive.

This is an outstanding opportunity to be part of a leading construction law team and develop your career with a top-tier law firm.
