We are currently looking for a Control Analyst to join our 1st Line of Defence (1LoD) Risk team. This role will support the delivery of high-quality control assurance activities across Suncorp New Zealand. You’ll play a key role in executing control testing, uplifting control outcomes, reporting, embedding risk maturity initiatives, and leveraging data insights, automation and emerging technologies to strengthen our control environment.


What you’ll do:

Execute design and operational effectiveness testing in line with the control testing program, ensuring high-quality documentation and timely delivery of outcomes.
Support Control Advisors and Risk Managers with control design and control uplift initiatives.
Provide insights and reporting to enhance 1LoD control outcomes and drive ongoing risk maturity.
Use data analytics and explore automation and AI solutions to improve monitoring, surveillance and future-state control testing capabilities.
Partner closely with the Risk and Compliance team to deliver testing, risk activities and reporting aligned to Risk Management Frameworks and Risk Appetite.
Support incident management processes, including contributing to root cause analysis to identify and address control weaknesses.
Identify opportunities to optimise the control environment, including supporting the introduction of new controls and retiring redundant ones.
Build strong stakeholder relationships across the business, to support control testing, innovation and efficiency in control activities.
What you’ll bring:

2+ years’ experience in risk, compliance, legal or audit within the financial services sector (insurance experience highly regarded).
Practical understanding of risk management frameworks, control design and operational effectiveness testing.
Experience in risk in change or change management in the financial services or insurance industry an advantage
Strong analytical capability, including experience working with data to generate insights and reporting.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical risk concepts for non-specialists.
High attention to detail, sound judgement and the confidence to provide constructive challenge and guidance to stakeholders.
A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a high-performing team.
A passion for continuous improvement, innovation and driving better risk outcomes for the business.
