Overview of Your Role
Trimble is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Control System Data Engineer to join our team in Christchurch, New Zealand. This role will be instrumental in the development of advanced control system solutions, with a primary focus on all aspects of data management and analysis essential for control system design, validation, and ongoing development. While the role supports motion control applications, your core responsibility will revolve around ensuring the availability, quality, and insightful analysis of data to drive robust control system performance. You'll work with real-world data from off-highway industrial machinery, contributing to cutting-edge autonomous and semi-autonomous solutions.
What You Will Do
Develop and implement data logging solutions for various control system parameters and sensor data.
Design and maintain efficient data storage architectures for large datasets, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
Perform comprehensive data analytics to identify trends, anomalies, and insights relevant to control system performance and plant behavior.
Contribute to system identification efforts to develop accurate plant models for control system design and simulation.
Support the design, validation, and refinement of control algorithms through data-driven analysis.
Develop and optimize highly efficient and effective scripting solutions for data processing, analysis, and visualization.
Collaborate with senior engineers to understand data requirements for control system development and testing.
Assist in evaluating control system performance in simulations and real-world environments using collected data.
What Skills & Experience You Should Bring
Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Aerospace, or a related engineering field.
Demonstrated strong scripting skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for efficient data manipulation, analysis, and visualization.
Understanding of fundamental control system concepts and their application.
Experience with data logging and acquisition techniques.
Familiarity with various data storage methods and best practices.
Ability to perform data analysis to extract meaningful insights.
Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
What Skills & Experience You Could Bring
Exposure to machine learning technologies and their potential applications in control systems or data analysis.
Experience with MATLAB/Simulink for data analysis and potential model development.
Familiarity with system identification principles and tools.
Basic understanding of motion control systems.
Any practical experience with data from industrial or off-highway machinery.
